I have been in a really bad flare for about two weeks and went to my doctor and was told that taking pain meds would not make me better it would only make it better for a little while til it all caught up. :cussing: When asked what else i was supposed to do she said well we are going to do an installation for you today and see how that works. I did it and then later was called and told that they wanted me to come in and taught to do self cathing. I have been through this before and have been taught i just can;'t physically do it.  :cussing:  I am a heavy woman and just know i am not going to be able to do this. So anyway i am not going to complain anymore, my question is this..........I haf the installation done today and I am not feeling that much better and was wondering if it should be instant or if these are supposed to build up to feeling better??????????????:help:  :cussing:
Thank you, Kirsten

Hi Kirsten,
It depends on the medicine they used in the instillation. DMSO or DMSO cocktail instillations take up to 4 or 5 once a week treatments to work. Heparin/Lidocaine/Sodium Bicarbonate instillations are usually soothing & work right away. But, I had to have the doctor make adjustments to mine (try different size & type of catheters, different amounts of water to dilute the meds & enable me to void the solution, different anesthetic - I use Marcaine instead of Lidocaine.). So, it took a few weeks & adjustments, then they work well for me.

Hoping you are feeling better soon!

I do the heparin installments. I know first hand that the installments takes time. i was doing them three times a day for about a month before I seen a differences shortly after i started noticeing the differences I went into a long remission.

sadly their no ace in the hole when it comes to IC any type of treatments is going to take time to see if it is the right treatment for you.
I wish you the best of luck, and hope and pray they work for you.
sending you hugs and prayers.
