:smile tee Last year my husband started building spinning wheels. In order to build them, he had to learn to spin. He's getting pretty good at it and he built me my own wheel and has been giving me some longing looks --- so I finally am learning to spin. We'll both be spinning at the county fair tomorrow and Friday and plan to spin at the Oregon State Fair at the end of the month.

...and I'm totally enjoying it! (Not sure yet what I'll do with all the yarn we're creating, but I'm guessing I'll be learning to knit socks.)

That's so cool! I remember my Mom had a spinning wheel (she was a real artist at anything involving yarn - really the most talented and knowledgeable knitter, crocheter etc. I've ever seen) and she made the greatest yarn with it. She made some beautiful sweaters with that special yarn! I remember too, looking for moss growing on trees and other things to make natural dyes for the yarn. It was so neat!

I hope you have a lot of fun with the spinning wheel - I'm sure you will make lots of beautiful things with the yarn!

Blessings,
Lori

It is fun --- earlier this month we took our spinning wheels to a Civil War re-enactment where they have food booths, lots of period sites, etc., and we had a really good time. Lots of people stopping by to see what and how we were doing. I'm looking forward to today.

Donna...I wear size 7 shoe and have small hands. My head is sorta big so I would need a larger hat. Winter is coming, and I could use new socks, gloves and a hat. Thanks...Let me know when they will be in the mail. :lmao:

Donna, have you made anything with your yarn as yet? When you are spinning do you use some sort of guage to make the yarn a particular ply?
is the wool you spin thick or a finer ply?

Donna that is great that you are doing something you enjoy. Sound very interesting.
