well, after 6 years without diagnosis i got it. IC. now still feeling "full blown" symtoms, i get scheduled for these test. well, how long will i honestly hurt from the patients point of view, not dr's. is it like most everything else, it varies? how long to have to wait to pretty much know whether it work or not? i have always bleed easy. not hemophilac but just thin blood, (used to take alot of bc's)? i can bearly do anything anymore, so no matter the risk i have to be willing to have something done. but i am nervous, that it won't help or really give a confirmed stage to account for my pain. simiply put almost back to square 1. where do you go from there. my doctor first visit on confirmed ic dx after pelvic exam (poking my bladder) had my gp dx also just by symptoms and everything else ruled out.

I was just diagnosed in June but I have had two cysto/hydros already......the first one was in June to diagnose and rule out any other problems. The only pain I had was when I urinated afterwards......in all honestly, it hurt badly but was definitely something we can get through. The pain was that stinging in the urethra. But the good news is that if you drink tons of water....each time you go, it gets easier and better. Your lower abdomen may be sore and I really recommend ice packs and my favorite, a heating pad.
I had no pain meds after my hydro....in retrospect, it was not that bad. I was so glad to get a diagnosis. Recovery I realize is different for each person though.
So the pain when urinating lasted just a few days and after about 4-5 days, my symptoms (previous symptoms before hydro) began getting better and better. After about 2 and half weeks after the proceudre, I really started feeling better....what I mean by that is the symptoms I suffered from before the hydro were better or gone. It was great to have relief and the pain I had for a few days was worth it.
I was able to get around and go places within a day or two. I do not recommend going far away from a bathroom though. I had stronger urgency after the procedure for a few days.
I had a 2nd hydro done two and half weeks ago b/c my symptoms came back and this time my uro put meds. into my bladder as well. I had no pain while urinating after....I only had really bad lower ab. cramps, which the heating pad helped with and as well as lots of naps.
I also had a urethral dialation done as well.
Take great care of yourself and drinks so much water and I would only drink water for a few days.
I hope you get relief after the procedure.
Best wishes
