Hey, remember how they said I was gonna get a new insurance card in the mail? That wasn't true. My health insurance just plain ran out. So, I won't be going to therapy anymore. Oh, and I already went off of Ortho Tri-Cyclen, so I will just have to get used to not taking it anymore. My Lamitcal supplies will last about three months, so that's good.
I have enough Elmiron Urocit-k, and Hydroxyzine to last me about a month to a month to a month and a half, then it looks like I'll be going off. That's okay, though, I've been wanting to try herbal treatments for my IC anyway. I have Kava Kava for flare ups, and I'm going to start Marshmallow Root when Elmiron Urocit-k, and Hydroxyzine run out.
More importantly, though, I have enough Seroquel to last for half a year. Seroquel is the only one that I really need (as in, I might end up in the hospital without it), so if I haven't figured something out by the time I run out, I will just have to buy it. Maybe I can get one of those assistance programs to help me with the Seroquel, since it is definetely the most important one.
Hi Green,
You are a minor and most states have a sliding scale plan for minors if their family cannot afford health insurance (In CA, it includes dental & vision as well as medical care). Your school office may have info on it, or you can call the county health department. In the school district I work for, there are outreaches twice a year with assistance in filling out the paperwork and we always have the applications available in the counseling and attendance offices in my high school.
If there's any way for you to get low/no cost health insurance, please do so... School starts very soon. Have your counselor help you with this (as soon as the scheduling frenzy dies down after the first few days!).
Hey, aren't you a senior this year?

Well, I was on Medicaid, but it ran out, and I'm not sure if they will let me get it again. They have a fine line between "poor enough" and "not poor enough", and I don't know if my family will pass this time. That's what I'm scared of here. I know this sounds really shady, but do you think there's anything we can do to help ensure that I can get it again? Like, remove some money from the bank and keep it under the matrress for a while? :hmm:
But yeah, I am a senior this year :D

When I had to go on disability in 1996 from my job of 17 years, my company had long term disability and so I received 65% of my salary. That was the good news. Bad news was that in the Washington, D.C. area you need every cent of your salary. And the 65% that I did get was STILL TAXED. I eventually got social security disability but then that was subtracted from the work amount. I had to COBRA into work for 2 years at $150 a month because I had worked my entire life. In other words, too responsible for any help. Also, social security covered no drug costs then and elmiron was very expensive. Many people (myself included) are not aware of this as most people do not worry about social security until they retire. The help you can get differs from state to state. But many times those of us who become disabled due to illness do not get the help we should.

I don't know what state you reside in, but in Texas, we have CHIP which is insurance for children of low income. I don't know your income- and I don't know how low of an income this is but I know you don't have to be on Medicaid for this- so you might want to contact your medicaid agency as they would have information on it. Its not that expensive. Good luck.

We have CHIP also and it is for children up to 18 that make to much for medicaid but have no insurance, ask at the Dept. of Human Services Fishy about this program. They have the applications for it here is a link
