i tolerated the monthlong doxycycline thing a few years ago and did really well. had a lot of success with that.
however, in july, i was diagnosed with a uterine infection and given cipro twice a day for 15 days to clear it up. within 3 days of starting the cipro, i was having a major flare. urine culture was fine, and after a few more days, the flare went away. don't know if it was the cipro or just a coincidence.
after finishing the cipro, i had another biopsy of my uterus done to make sure the infection was gone. it came out clean, but the dr wanted to do 1 more round of antibiotics just to make sure. he gave me 2 weeks of bactrim twice a day this time.
i started it thursday, and now i can barely relieve myself. i really need to go, i really really try, i just can't. and it's frustrating, uncomfortable, most of the time it's downright painful.
i'm not even a week into the med, and i don't know if i can cope. i teach 7th grade, and school starts monday. i don't have bathroom breaks except at lunch and after my last class. i need something to help with this, but i don't know what to do. the only thing i have is urelle, and it's not helping much.
can anyone help me? is it really the antibiotics?

Could you have a yeast infection? You sound like you have PFD flaring up which can happen from a yeast infection or other things...and it can cause retention. Did you take a probiotic? if so how strong?
Usually antibiotics have a anti inflammatory effect and usually make us feel better....but we all react different so sometiimes your bladder just doesn't like that med for no other reason than that. Hopefully that isn't the case.
Yes you can have a yeast infection without normal symptoms like discharge or itching.
Hope you feel better soon!!!!

thanks katrina,
i hadn't thought of a yeast infection. i might pick up some monistat tonight and see if it helps. i'm also putting in a call to the urologist. i'm sure she's probably tired of me by now.
if i use the monistat (3 day thing), when should i start to notice a difference?

I hope you feel better soon!!

Be careful Monistat makes me flare something awful!! Every time I go thinking I have a yeast infection my doctor does a swab and nothing every time. Must be estrogen problem instead of yeast. I take oil of oregano daily, and forget to take my probiotic nightly. LOL. Does the probiotic make anyone else feel gassy here. I find I'm really gassy after probiotic.

That is very, very odd.....since in most cases if anything I probiotic makes a person less gassy. In fact it certainly does that for me and when my IBS is flaring in a way that puts my whole body through a lot of pain more probiotic is part of what I do to fix it. ....but I wouldn't be surprised if taking a probiotic and than not (like missing it) would make you gassy.

do not feel gases on probiotics. I do struggle with some antibiotics flaring my bladder though..., I can not use monistat at all BIG IC flare med. I do take diflucan, this seems to irritate some but is a necessity at times. I have also found that putting the silverbiotics right into the vaginal area both prevents and cures yeast without the side effects!
Hope you feel better soon!

well, the urologist gave me some vesicare, and it's helped a bit with frequency and urgency. but i still feel like i'm about to pee most of the time. it's the weirdest feeling. and when i do go, i still have to work hard, but not as hard as before vesicare and not as long either. so i guess it's helping. the only side effect so far is blurred vision, and the package insert says it's a common side effect. annoying though since i'm a teacher and school starts monday. fortunately, the vision gets better over time, so i think i'm going to take the meds at night instead of in the morning.
can't wait to get off these antibiotics. i know things will get better once i'm off them. i felt a lot better after stopping the cipro.
what is a probiotic? it's a new concept to me.

probiotics are friendly bacteria....they get killed off while on an antibiotic just like good bacteria but our body needs them...they help us digest food, they keep us from having an overgrowth of yeast, and just make us healthier. Most are taken from yogurt but since yogurt isn't IC friendly it can mean getting it other ways.
