There are times when no matter how much water I drink (or anything else) I can not get enough. My mouth, tongue and lips feel so dry and hurt. It isn't any or my meds because it doesn't happen all the time. With the very hot weather we had it doesn't seem to be going away this time. Anyone else have this?

I was like that for 4 months before the dr's found out my left ureter was totally blocked by scar tissue from my bladder removal surgery....I was drinking gallons of water/juice/colas/anything I could get my hands on.. the left kidney was swollen and toxic.......you may want to check for kidney stones or diabetes....please keep us posted..

I get this from Pyrelle. It doesn't seem to happen every time I take it so I am not sure what would trigger it other than meds with the combination of losing a lot of fluids such as during hot weather.

Detrol LA made everything very dry, I mean everything! I finally stopped taking it and I am doing fine without it.
Also, like Imustpee said, you might check for diabetes. My husband is a diabetic and that is how we first found out he had diabetes because he could not drink enough fluids to get rid of the thirst.

I agree --- if this thirst thing is something new, you should ask your doctor about testing your blood sugar.

I've had for I guess two years now but haven't had any blood work done. Did have kidneys checked by ultra sound because I get pain in my sides at times but they are fine.

I think it could still be from your medication even if it is on and off.
Also, make sure you get your blood sugar tested. Thirst is a sign of diabetes.

When i had that problem, the doctor's told me i had Sjogren's Syndrome. Which is dry eyes/mouth...I got some toothpast and a mouth gel, i think it was called Biotene..the gel helped alot! I could be so thirsty and i could put some of that in my mouth, and it was like it added moisture! It was over the counter.
Of course, as always check with the doctor. :)
Hope this helps,

Today, everything dried out. My hands are crusty and my arms are itching like crazy. I don't know what causes it. Only one arm gets really itchy. I use Eucerin which works really well. When my mouth is dry, I try to have some hard candy around - lifesavers! The dry mouth is what triggers my thirst - I think! I just had blood checked and everything looks good except cholesterol - but good cholesterol is good. Exercise and diet - easy to say hard to do.

I have the same problem. I drink plenty of water through the day. I carry lifesavers with me. I'm sure there is a Rx that I am taking that can cause dry mouth. I know that the Elavil caused my mouth to be very dry. I switched to Effexor and I get dry mouth less.

I get dry mouth from time to time; not sure if its the elmiron or what... (i take it out of the capsule so it's pretty dry when i take it even though i put it in some water...) perhaps you could try drinking little sips of water consistently throughout the day? I too asked my rpimary doctor to go over my most recent blood work to see if he wants to check for diabetes. havent heard anything back yet (no news is good news yes?) :) hope you are feeling better!!! another great lotion to try is Gold Bond's Lotion...you can find it at walmart. a little more expensive but well worth it.

I agree that a thorough (sp?) work up by your PCP is in order. This is a symptom of diabetes and many other things too. Antihistimines (such as Atarax or Hydroxyzine, as well as others) commonly prescribed for IC can also cause dry mouth.Detrol La, Vesicare, and other meds to treat urgency/frequency could also be the culprit. However, with any new symptom, it is always necessary to have it checked out by your Dr. to be sure. Good luck! Hope it is something simple! Hugs, Amy
