Hi! I'm so glad I found this web-site. It's so nice to find people who have some advice and support to offer. I'm not sure what triggerd my IC, I've had over 40 "UTI's" in the past 10 years and very few came back as bacteria. The doctors just kept pumping me full of antibiotics. I was also involved in a boating accident at work in 2004 which lead to internal bleeding and surgery. I've been tested for everything you could imagine and finally they gave me an answer! I never thought I'd be excited to have an incurable disease! I've been reading a lot of stories and postings and I've noticed that a lot of my symptoms are the same as a lot of people. IBS, tingling feet, pain that is unreal at times, all the fun bathroom issues and the major lack of sleep. I can't remember when the last time I got more then 2 consecutive hours of sleep was.

I keep reading about loose fitting clothing and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for my situation. I'm active duty military and wearing belts and pants that sit at your natural waist is a daily thing for me. It's so uncomfortable. I recently was granted permission to only wear my t-shirt and not my outter shirt so I don't have any more layers tucked into my pants. That helped take some of the pressure off my abdomine. I just hate telling my command my private problems and why I need to adjust my clothing. It really is embarassing and none of their business but I have to have a good reason to alter my uniform. Anyone have any ideas on how I could bring this up to my captain?

Thanks so much!

:welcome: I am so glad you found us.

You asked for suggestions about your clothing problems. The only thing I can think of is, if you are female (can't tell by your posts :hmm: ...sorry for the following suggestion if you are male) maybe you can wear maternity uniform pants if there is such a thing? Or maybe get a size or two larger in the waist and have them altered so they fit elsewhere? I am an Air Force Brat from long ago, but I do not know what is available and allowed, now.

:) :) :)

I would suggest that you say something like: "I have neuropathic nerve pain around my abdomen & pelvis and need to wear loose clothing." You could probably get your healthcare provider to write a note, using those specific terms, since it is considered to be one of our many IC-related symptoms.

I recommend that you consult with your healthcare provider if you believe that the information above may be helpful; your healthcare provider will determine the appropriate answer regarding your situation.

Best wishes, ICB

Having been active duty myself and surviving 2 commands with my husband, the one thing I might suggest is honesty. Not gory personal details, but basic stuff early on. That way, if you have something severe happen with the IC(God forbid)they will already have somewhat of a grasp on your medical needs. I am glad there is some accomodation for your needs already, and think Sharon's idea is awesome. The BDU pants don't even have buttons and with the top over you can't tell that they are different. If I can help you in anyway, please let me know. There are a few more posters on the ICN who are prior military who may have ideas.
