Hi everyone. It has been sometime since I have written anything so...here goes .
I was doing DMSO and after 9 total installs of the"wonderful poison" I had to stop I just could no long tolerate the pain or the odor!
So it was back to Stanford Uro clinic. They are wonderful people down there and I am grateful for there services. I was written the script that I would need to do installs at home with lidocaine, sodium bicarb. and heparin.
I have been in flare off and on for 2 months or longer...so I did the instill and that was at 2:30 yesterday afternnon and I am still in pain with urgency and leaking ( I never leak!)::cussing:
On top of the flares... the instills I had to chase around this town to get the script fill in the first place. Finally got that done.
THEN I AM INFORMED THAT MEDICARE WON'T PAY FOR ANY OF IT!!!!
Because they will not pay for injectibles....What do the think insulin is for crying out loud!!!??? Well, I didn't have the money to pay for it, so the
pharmacist gives me enough for 1 install to use yesterday and I can pay and pick up the rest of the meds today...Now that he went out of his way to help me out I don't know if the pain is worth any of it. I am calling Stanford first thing in the morning!! Something has got to give.
I am so sleep deprived that I don't remember what 2-3 full hours of sleep feels like. And of course the frequency is back in full force.:bonk: :bonk:
I never ask ,What's next" cause I will find out sooner than I care to.:headbang:
Does anyone else have such pain with this type of cocktail? Is it always like this or will the pain stop?:help: Any help you may have to offer is greatly accepted,
Take Care ALL...JOY

Hi Joy, the sodium bicarb did the same thing to me. I had been having heparin/liod done for a long time and my Uro thought about adding the sodium. That was very painfull and frequency worse. did it 3 times and told him no more. Went back to just the hepairn/liod. Maybe try doing just the heparin/lido. Doesn't it make you mad how insurances will pay for one thing and not the other. I wouldn't worry about the pharmacist. I'm sure he would understand if you didn't pick up anymore. Hope you get to feeling better.

Is it just the heparin insurance won't cover? Heparin is usually injected, not instilled --- that could be the reason for the denial. You might talk with the insurance person at your uro's office and see if they can help.

Hi Joy,
For me, Lidocaine burned, but instead now use Marcaine- it has been just fine & the instillations are now very, very helpful. Might be another option. (I also see Dr. Payne @ Stanford).

Wishing you better days soon!

Donna, I have been on the phone all morning over them not paying for this and I think if I continue to use this mixture I will demand a fair hearing...this is medicare part D and Sierra Rx. Wish me luck.:)

My doctor has to fight medicade and medicare and they will not cover many instill meds. Check around on the prices, I have no insurance but found my meds for the most part very reasonible, once I ask around. I get mine now from Walmart speciality pharmacy.
As I've posted before, I had problems with the instill meds. then we figured out I reacted to the preservatives. Now we get all preservative free meds. without a problems.

Hope you find something that helps soon!

Well, I won't don't have to worry about insurance paying for the instills because I won't be doing them. It was worse than the DMSO and that was H*ll. It caused the worse flare I have had in over a year. Thanks, but no thanks. I don't need that kind of rescuing:rant: :cussing: Ouch is an understatement!
So we will try something else,
Wish me luck.
