I have been to 4 different doctors when have a UTI. NOT ONE of them has ever tried to figure out why I am getting the uti's..just give her some antibiotics and we'll be on our way. I did a lot of research - read ******<sp?> book about not having to live with cystis and I pretty much stopped the uti's on my own - I have to fight the anger as to WHY no doctor ever stopped long enough to ask the simply WHY is she getting this infections? Before I knew what I was doing, I kept taking antiobiotics - culture or no culture - and here I am - diagnosed about a year ago - with IC. No going back but fighting to keep it from getting worse.
My bladder has always seemed funny - hard time urinating for hours and then going constantly. It all seemed to start with my first procedure for infertility when I had my first catherter inserted. They wouldn't release me from the hospital until I could urinate..:toilet: I finally did and had to stop several times to go on the way home! (3 hour drive, of course)
When something, somehow disrupts that gag layer - then an infection or two gets in there and WHAM!
I refuse to feel helpless- refuse to blame myself - I've never smoked or drank and always was a fairly healthy eater - I see others around me that abuse their bodies in a zillion ways and they don't have IC!!!! (Should've drank while I had the chance!!!)
Everyone take care and thanks for letting me unload.

Yes sadly caths can cause us to have real UTI's anything entering down in that area can cause UTI's.

Your right your not to blame for IC. IC is just something that happens to us. I believe mine was caused from zillions of UTI's for a baby up until adulthood, caths as a child, and of course many surgeries. (they did my first bladder surgery when i was nine weeks old!)

don't worry about unloading hon that is what we are here for to offer you support, understanding, and of course care.
sending you hugs and prayers.

I just had a question for you. You mentioned a catheter being inserted somewhere when you were infertile. Where was the catheter placed into your urethra or vagaina? Fertility treatments themselves the medications and injections they make you take can aggrivate IC terribly. That might be what started off your trouble. I also wondered about the catheter. I never had a fertility treatment that involved them putting a catheter into my bladder but they did use one in my vagaina to insert the swimmers.

Just wondering what you were talking about.

Thanks,
