Hi, my name is Madeleine. I'm 14 years old and I live in Canada. I've had IC since I was seven. I was just wondering, can IC cause kidney failure? I read somewhere that it can and it freaked me out, is it true?

I have never heard of anyone having kidney failure caused by IC. I have had IC for 31+ years and never a kidney problem. Next time you see your doctor, I think it would be a good idea to ask about this.

Warm hugs,
Donna

I also have never heard of IC causing Kidney Failure. I have had it for 10 yrs now, and other than having kidney stones every once in a while, I have no other Kidney Problems. I would do what Donna suggested and talk to your Doctor

Hi Madeleine! I'm 17 years old, but I got IC back when I was 15.

I don't think IC causes kidney failure. However, scientists are studing a correlation between IC and kidney disease. It seems they are both on the gene PAND and they can sometimes occur together. But that is different from IC causing kidney failure, luckily for us :)

Hello,

I want to congratulate the uro who diagnosed you. Most uro's don't consider IC as a possibility for people as young as yourself. I remember having ic symptoms since age 6. . It's possible I had it even earlier but can't remember. It's been 35 years now with ic, and I have good kidney function.
I was diagnosed after 33 years of ic. My fault, I was never persistent and went to see a uro. I kept complaining to the wrong doctor, my gyno. Please don't worry about that. You have enough to deal with ic. I'm so sorry that you have ic from a very young age, that is quite rare. I'm just wondering what treatments you have tried up until now and if they have helped you. Hope you are managing well. I also live in Canada, Montreal. Please feel free to write to me. LOL,
