Has anyone used the Mirena IUD? Does it help or hurt your IC?

I am really curious about this myself. I have my annual exam next Tuesday and my doctor wants to put one in, but I'm pretty nervous. I hope someone replies.

I have had my Mirena for a year and three months and it was the only thing that worked for me. Every time I took Prometrium progesterone I had a terrible case of red vulva, IC symptoms and bled like I was aborting a fetus.
I have fibroids and since I have had the Mirena they have shrunk and my uterus which was 9 inches was 6 last ultrasound in June.
The progestin in Mirena is derived from the testosterone family and only goes into the uterine lining and not systemic at all. The Mirena puts the uterine lining in a kind of coma and the lining ceases to build up and eventually your periods stop. It is also a birth control device, which when removed your periods restart and you can get PG if you wanted to.
The downside of MIrena is for the first three to six months most women spot, I had heavy spotting due to the fibroid problem which is unusual. At between 4 and twelve months periods stop, depending on the person.
There is a lot of research on medicated IUD now and HRT in the future may consist of a medicated IUD like Mirena and oral estrogen therapy for menopausal women.
Year ago I tried an IUD and bled very hard on it and had to have it removed, this is not true with Mirena as it is medicated and stops bleeding disorders.

Was it horribly painful to have put in? This is silly, I know, for me to be afraid cuz I just had a baby a few months ago so I shouldn't be afraid of pain, but I am a wuss when it comes to this stuff.
