View Full Version : It's 115 on my porch!!!
It's 115 degrees:evilsmile on my balcony thermometer.
My :cat: is flat on the floor, and I'm flat on the sofa.
I wish I had air conditioning,
but am making do with vanilla ice cream, ice water & a big fan...
I thought about taking a lawn chair and parking it in the frozen food section at Safeway, but thought they might frown on that.:loco:
Hope this heat wave breaks soon!!!!

Isn't this weather just nuts! I have never seen it this hot and so muggy. The air is not moving at all. Thank GOD I have AC. I never had it until just a couple years ago. My husband did not like it and the majority of our marriage life we have lived in Calif. He is in a nursing home now, so I have AC. I love it!!:smile tee
I feel sorry for those who don't have it with this horrible weather! I had to suffer many summers without an AC, so I know what you are going through. Yuck! I don't like heat and never liked heat!

I live near Seattle and it's 95!!!! It was 98 yesterday! AND it will be 95 tomorrow!!! Ahhhhhhh...we never get heat like this...average summer temps are in the mid-70's....I am so glad I have a heat pump/air con!! I didn't for 23 years but hubby and I had it installed 2 years ago, as we were tired of heating with wood.....the puppies are laying in the shade with their tongues hanging out a mile...I have their wading pool filed up but now that is too warm for them.....

Well, I'm in North Carolina, and we just had a week of temps in the mid-90s, and the humidity made the heat index about 105. We had all these heat warnings on the news (you know, check on the young and elderly, drink water, be careful with outdoor activity, learn the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, etc).
NASTY. We had a night full of thunderstorms last night and it seems a little cooler; maybe it will get better this week!!

We're sweltering too! It's usually not out of the 80s here so when it hits 100, we feel like we're dying. I went Friday and got some shade cloth to put on our pool house --- am thinking I might need to go get another piece so the pool won't get too warm. Last night it was absolutely perfect so at least I got to go to bed cool.

Me too ladies. I live in Illinois where the severe storms came through and did major damage. Then another storm came and make things worse. We was out of electricity, stores close, gas stations close, no where to get gas, water power shut down, trying to find ice and beat the heat. Trees are snap like tooth picks and pole line are all over the streets and houses. It looks like a war zone down our street and everyplace else.
We got our electricity back and I hope it stays. We have a tree down on our power meter and was told not to touch it. I am hoping it won't do damage because of the weigh. The electric people are so business, they have to restore electricity to the people before they can come to fix it. I truly understand that.
We also have a big tree down in our front yard, thank God it did not hit the house. Our house would have been condemned, if it did. Thank God also no one was hurt by it.
The heat was so miserable that you couldn't sleep. We try to get a Motel but they were close or there was no vacancy. The only opening were about a three hour drive. Well it did finally cool down but now it is getting hot again. Glad we have AC now. This was so unbelievable, never in my life I have seen this much destruction in such a wide vast area.
Thank God we are still alive and for his protection.

We actually have a "cool front" coming in -- in July!! It is only going to be 97 today with a 30 percent chance of rain. (hey, I'll take the 97 anyday, compared to last few weeks when it was over a 100 degrees) We of course have our A/C, but with this heat, it doesn't seem to work as well, plus yesterday, power went out for about 2 hours, had open the windows, very little breeze. Whats with this weather?? I can't wait till September, when its hotter than blazes here. But come November it will start cooling down a little.

I totally agree with Mary. Here in Louisiana we have had a week and half of 100 + days. This was without the heat index. It was horrible. Yesterday was so nice the heat wave finally has broke. I totally feel for those in States where their homes dont have AC and I am sure they are miserable right now.
It was so hot. Last Sunday my son had a ball game at 2:00 in the afternoon. My dad is 74 and has not been doing well since he had heart bypass in Nov. So my Mom choose for them to come to the game, I told her not to since it will be so hot, but she did not listen. Thankfully we had shade to sit under, someone had put up a tent, but it was still to much for my Dad. He had to be helped back to the car and I had to go and pull it right up to him. He almost suffered from heat ext. He was confused, burning up heart rate up. My mom felt so bad afterwards.
Remember during the heat check on elders, children and pets that stay outside.

Hi ladies,
I was in Tijuana Mexico for a couple of days and then went up to Rosarito and I could not belive how Nice the weather is over there, but as soon as I crossed the boarder it hit me like a tone of bricks I was back to 105 weather and then it got worst.
Well, the next day after posting this it was 120 in the apartment. Impossible to recover from a kidney infection when you're so nauseated from heat you can't drink water, so I took my cat & went to my granddad's house for 4 days (he has airconditioning & doesn't mind kitty). My parents lost electricity for 15 hours one day & 2 hours the next. The vet's office 2 miles from my house was featured on the news with people bringing in their pets who'd died from the heat. The news said this morning that 81 people have died in CA from the heat wave. I've never seen anything like this here.
Just got home, the heat wave has broken. All my groceries in the fridge are spoiled (ugh, the milk smelled rank), but the house is cool today & I'm glad to be home.
Hope you're all staying cool!

It's gradually cooling down in Oregon too, but if we hadn't had the 105, we'd still say we're in a heat wave. At least it's cooler in the mornings.

Its still hot here in Central Texas. Its going to be a Cool 98 today!! No rain in sight. In the mornings its pretty cool, around 75 or so, sometimes with a little bit of a breeze. On the weekends if we are lucky, we can catch a little breeze, and I will open up the windows for awhile but by early afternoon, we have to shut them and turn on the AC. I really shouldn't complain, as its like this every Summer till October or so.
