This may be a strange question but I have an idea. I went and did a PAP since I am real good at putting those off as much as possible and my friend and lady GP is moving away! Anyway it came back slightly abnormal. They normally would only repeat it in a few months but a since I have a lot of pelvic pain, she just want to rule it out as a cause so am going to a GYN...,
I'm thrilled to get to do this again.
My question is this: I always have bladder/pelvic pain, but when they do an exam my bladder always hurt so really can't tell if there is uteran pain.
I thought maybe I could do a rescue treatment to numb the bladder so we could tell if their is any other pain issues. This my first visit with this doctor and I am already uncomfortbale explaing all the please don't use latex etc....,so am trying to figure out the best way to do this. If I do it before hand, can't do a urine test.
I thought about asking him just to let me do it before he comes in..., (I do them at home all the time.) but don't want to scare him off the first visit!
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Shelly
Hi Shelly,
I don't know about the instillation, but thought you might be interested in the suggestions in this article, "Making Pelvic Exams Easier For Patients With IC".

Hope you find something helpful & that the exam goes well.

Thanks Kadi it's has good ideas and I printed it out to take with me!
I stopped by the office today to get all the paper work in advance & decided to ask them. I was told the doctor would not do a pelvic on the consultation:)!!! so will have time to talk to him and even give him the info ahead of time!
Thanks again!

I think that is a great idea to use the installment before the pelvic exam. I would just call a head of time and ask if it would be okay if you bring alone your installment could you please have a small amount of time to put it in your bladder before the exam begins. this hopefully should stop the bladder pain enough to know the difference in where the pain is coming threw.
Please let us know how it works out.
sending you hugs and prayers.

Though they told me that they weren't going to do a pelvic I was not 100% prepared, but he did and said we could instill the meds, and the nurse helped me.., forgot the mirror and the headlight..,
I will tell you I think this is an excellent idea, It is so easy to write everything off as IC and miss other things going on in our body! I hate PAP's but did it only becasue my GP was moving. Thought all the extra pelvic pain was just IC...,
I definately have some pelvic issue unrelated to the bladder and had a lot of pain even with things numbed, bladder wise. Just think were the pain level would be without it! This could account for the increase in my symptoms especially pelvic pain lately! So now we get to do a sonagram soon. :( but answers are better then nothing!
I just hope others read this!

I use the instills before sex quite often to ease pain during and after -- I think it would probably offer the same relief for a pelvic :) Go for it... in fact, I think I'm going to do the same thing before my next annual exam! ;)

so glad you where able to get some type of answer. I'm sorry you have yet other problems to worry about, but like you said one answer is better then nothing!
I pray that your next test will give you the rest of the answers you are looking for so hopefully some of the pain issues can be resolved.
many prayers are being sent just for you.
Rhonda
P.S
Thanks for posting this idea. I'm sure other icers will find this very useful!!
I have to set up my pap again soon. it will be due again this fall. The good news is i'm having my surgery for my hunners and bladder/kidney issues on the ninth of this month (Aug) so hopefully by the time i go in for my pap. I will be in remission a bit.
I also plan on taking my treatment with me because of you posting this!!
Thanks bunches!!

I'll be praying for you too Rhonda know you have been through so much and really need a remission. a:grouphug:
Thanks also for the encouragment Jen, and thanks to both of you for helping me learn and get the confidence to do instills in the first place!
Since the bladder has to be full for a sonagram I am also going to request, doing the instill before hand too. I know the last one 3 years ago really sent me into a flare!!!
