I also posted this in the flare up section but then saw this section and thought you all might have some good ideas as well....

I am in my first flare since my interstim in March. I am having constant and severe muscle spasms in my vagina, rectum (pelvic floor) area that goes all the way down my left leg and foot. I have had thiss off and on since bein dx with IC but usually I can sit on the toilet and "push" and the tightness will release. Well, today I cannot get them to stop spasming. I have tried the usually pushing and I have applied ice to the area. I have taken my bladder spasm meds to see if that will help but it has not.

Anyone have any advice for how they handle this? I have never had it NOT stop before. The pain is horrible and is really starting stir up my bladder. Everything "down there" is in a tight ball!

Any remedies you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your responses!

What side is your interstim lead on? If it's on the same side as the spasm then it could be related to your interstim. Have you tried to turn your unit down? It makes me wonder because you said the spasms are going down into your foot, and when the interstim is too high it can cause foot involvement. I know if I was in a flare my rep told me I might have to turn the unit down because everything is more sensitive and the stim would seem stronger. If it doesn't go away after turning it down, I'd contact my dr. for instructions.

My interstim is on the right and my spasms are on the left. Also I have had these spasms for the last 4 years and only had the interstim since March. So I don't think it is related. The only difference than when I usually have had the spasming is that this time it just does not want to stop. I did turn my stim down just to see what happens. I also wondered if turning it up would shock things into letting go. I just don't know...I have never had a spasm last this long and not want to stop.

Thanks for you thoughts, though.

Mom- you mentioned ice, but not heat. Sitting in warm water might help, a heating pad or therma patch attached to your underwear my also be effective. I'd call your doc right away. What PF meds are you on? I use Valium and it works pretty well. I think I'll eventually have to have PT, but so far I've been able to hang in with what I'm using.
Hope you feel better soon - keep us informed.
