HI all,
This thread has no point except to vent. I went to the pharmacy yesterday and was shocked about how much one of my meds cost. It is a long story, not really worth telling, we all know the drill.
Anyway, there was the very old woman in there and she was trying to get one of her medications. I guess she had insurance before and was used to paying 15 dollars for this med. When she went up I couldnt help but hear they told her it was 500 dollars for a 1 month supply! This poor womans face, she looked like she might actually die right there. She didnt have insurance anymore I guess. She kept saying, but I need this med to live. I need this med to live. I was so upset after I left and I felt like a louse for complaining about my med problems. I have it easy compared to most.
Anyway, I just wanted to post this cause it has really been on my mind since yesterday. When I told my hubby he said, you should have offered her some money. I doubt she would have taken it anyway and I didnt have 500 to give her. I dont know what ended up happening with her but I will think twice necxt time I whine about my meds.
Love Sarah

I know what you mean. It is a very sad situation. I've seen the same when I go to get my meds, all generics are $0 for me, it makes me feel terrible when I see people so distraught about the cost of their meds. In my twenties, I suffered from bacterial vaginosis all the time and did not have insurance then. I went to pick up my prescription for Flagyl, it was $100 for 7 pills!!!! Obviously not something a poor college student could afford. Luckily I live near the border of Mexico and was able to go there and buy a box of 30 for 3 bucks. Absolutely insane! Just a 30 minute drive to cross the border saved me $97.

I feel so sorry for that lady. I really hate this meds-insurance business thing. I pay expensive premiun for my insurance every month, and they still ask me to pay more$$$ for deductible to cover for my medical supplies that I need for my IC. It's insane:cussing: :cussing: :cussing: I wonder where all my money goes. I feel like I am making money just to pay for my insurance. I am not kidding about this

It is so sad when medicine cost more than food.
One elder couple at my church told me that he could not stop working at 75 becasue he did not get enough money from the ss retirement to pay for his $ $ 900.00 medicine . So he cooks up town three days a week 6 hours and that gives him extra and she sews at 72 for othes and gets money that sad at that age they should have life easy not worry about what med they get.

I too feel for those without prescription insurance. I encourage anyone who can't afford their meds to let your doctor know! They many times can prescribe something less expensive --- or maybe give you samples.

Gosh i hear these stories soooo sad. There was something in the news recently on an elderly lady who held up the pharmacy cause she needed medicine to live & couldn't afford it.
This countries government really needs to get there act together & help us w/the healthcare dept.
All i can say is thank god for patient assistance!
