I recently had my monthly visit with my uro. He agreed to take me off Neurontin and Elavil because they were not helping plus, one of the side effects is weight gain which I wish I would have known before hand. He did put me on Flomax which is normally used in men with trouble urinating. he has had great success with his IC patients that have tried it for retaining/straining. I believe it is an antihistamine, because it is used for allergies I believe also. I was just wondering if anyone has used Flomax and had success? I have the bion implant also and have never had the problem of retaining/straining until the past 4 months. I do notice that when my bion is off, I do not retainin/strain as often. I hope the bion is not doing more bad than good.

I'm on Flomax right now. It does help. Flomax is an alpha blocker. I've never heard of it been used for allergies. I'm on the severe end of the IC spectrum. I saw you on the CyA thread and I'm also one of the select few on it. Flomax works so I don't have to strain as much. I'm never had a bion just an interstim which sucked. I'm not sure what the difference is but I'm, sure they are close to being similar. Good luck to you and hope flomax works.

IcyAngel is correct -- Flomax is not an antihistamine; rather it is what's known as an alpha-blocker. It binds to certain receptors in the body and relaxes smooth muscle cells... and the bladder neck is made up of these cells, so Flomax relaxes it and makes it easier for you to urinate. Often it is prescribed to men with enlarged prostates to allow them to urinate better, but it is prescribed for women now too -- I took it myself for quite some time but recently went off the drug on my uro's recommendation, as it wasn't helping with my retention as much anymore.
However, it used to work well and helped me empty my bladder more easily! :)
Good luck...

Yes Flomax seemed to work somewhat for me but I became pregnant and had to stop it. It is not an antihistimine, but a male prostate medication. Good luck

Wean off of Neurontin.
I was taking it (hated it!) and I didn't actually know I was supposed to decrease slowly.
I got REALLY ANGRY!!! I was just MAD for days and days!!! Not just annoyed but ANGRY!!!!
Dh was relieved when we realized it was me stopping the med too soon and not me turning into maniac.
I tried Flomax but it made me poo like crazy. I uh..I stopped taking it do to insane poo-ing.
