Angie,

The price you were quoted for the Elmiron is, unfortunately, correct. Its so costly due to it being the only medication on the market for the time being to treat IC. I'm assuming once the patent runs out and a generic is available the cost will come down significantly.

I'm currently on 3 pills 2x/day. The Dr wrote the script to be filled all at once. My insurance wouldnt approve that saying I could only get 31 days worth at a time or else I'd have to pay for it out of pocket. Out of curiosity I asked the pharmacist what the cost would be out of pocket and about fell out when he said "$1485.00". Right then and there I thanked the Good Man Upstairs for insurance coverage.

I'm sorry you dont have insurance to cover this med. Hopefully though it wont be too terribly long before you hear something back regarding assistance. From my understanding the makers of Elmiron are quite helpful in making sure you get the med.

Take care, dear
Diana

Hi there,

that makes me soooo mad. In Italy it costs 70 Euro a month over the counter without insurance. I know this comment is totally useless, but reading this just makes me :cussing: :cussing:

Yes, its made with pentosanpolysulfate, but by a different company (it's called Fibrase). In germany it's 120 Eur a month without insurance with prescription (another company).

I don't get it. The italian company still seem to make money out of it, so that makes me wonder how much money you can make if you charge $1485.00 a month. It makes me so sad and :headbang: :headbang:

My cost is $60 per month, but I'm still not certain it's working, that's the rub. Taking it, but is it working? Who knows.

My insurence won't cover it either until Sept (due to school being back in session) and it is 257$ out of pocket from the university pharmicist. I called around to all the drug stores in the area and the highest was 331$. All this for 90 pills (3Xday).

I too, filled out the information for the help, but I do not know what will happen in Sept. as if they really will cover it or not. *fingers crossed*

Unfortunetly, it does cost about $300 a month (without insurance). I pay $75.00 for 3/months worth with my insurance.

Its insane. Good luck in getting your application approved.

A wonderful thing happened today! In the mail, I recieved a rebate from my student insurence for 177$ back from the prescription! The tooth fairy must have put in a good word for me with the insurence fairies.

I just had my prescription filled and for 120 pills the retail was over $300. Thank god for my HMO-I only had to pay $15 and if I did mail away (which I should have done) it would be $25 for 3 months.

My insurance has terrible drug coverage, I pay 120 dollars for 100 pills. I am very glad that I am down to one a day at this point. Without insurance it would have cost 340 dollars for the 100 pills. At least my insurance has a great medical coverage plan with no co-pay. It makes up for the $$$ Elmiron!

I get my Elmiron free through the Johnson & Johsnon RX program. (there is no other way, we have no insurance, and it isnt something we could otherwise afford).

I think it took about 2 weeks after my initial application was processed to receive the Elmiron. They will only send it to your dr's office so if your Dr's office isnt good about letting you know, be sure to call and ask every couple of days.

The nice thing about J&J, once they approve you, you are approved for a year, and refills are automatic. You don't have to re-apply every few months, or call or anything - they just send them out automatically. Usually right about the time I open my last bottle is about when the next 3 months worth arrives at my Dr's office.

If you go to this link - it will link you to the application you need to fill out, and has the toll free number posted (800-652-6227). I have called them and they are very helpful, they can tell you where they are with your application , when your Elmiron shipped out, everything.

I hope this helps someone. Elmiron has helped me so much. I've seen alot of improvement, just in the past few months (I've been on it for 8 months), I've even been able to stop taking amitriptilyne (which I was taking for chronic IC pain), so Elmiron has really helped me.

When I took it a couple years ago, wiith insurance..$68/ month if I get it at Walmart, but 3 month supply for $50 thru my insurance mail order program. Not a bad deal. But I'm a skeptic and have my doubts about Elmiron, which is why I stopped taking it, even though I get a pretty good deal with the mail order. Don't worry, don't mind if you don't agree with me.

Yeah, I finally got it! Dr's office mailing it to me since I am about 3 hours away from my Dr. Well, I will give it a shot and see if it will help. There is no way I could buy it every month at full price without insurance even if it was a guarntee fix. Just too expensive. I guess I can at least see if it is going to work without filing for bancruptcy. I am skeptical if it will work, but hope so. I hope I am a lucky one not to get any side effects. thanks again yall!
