My main symptom during a flare is nearly constant bladder pressure - the filling that my bladder is full. Still, I can usually hold my urine for at least 2-3 hours, if not longer. I know this is a very common symptom. However, I think some patients may refer to this symptom as pain or IC pain, while others refer to it as urgency or frequency, which may be why I am confused. Has anyone found anything that helps this symptom? Does anyone take pain medications for this pressure feeling? Does pyridium help?
I am currently on Elmiron, Vistaril, and Detrol LA.
Any advice would be welcome. Thanks so much for reading.

Hi...Welcome.
Yes. Pyridium helped me a great deal along with Atarax. I took both pyridium and pyridium plus (perscription.) If you haven't been on Elmiron that long, give that time to work too. As you know, the IC diet is huge...are you sticking to that? It will make a difference also.
Good luck, I hope this helps.

Thanks hoping...
I have actually been on Elmiron for 2 years. Here's the story...I had that constant feeling of needing to go about 2 years ago. It was a little different than my symptom now. It was not really bladder pressure - just sort of an annoying awareness of the bladder. It went away as soon as I started Elmiron and Vistaril - so it was probably the Vistaril that helped.
After about 1 year, I cut my dosage of Elmiron from 4 pills to 2 pill per day. A few months later, I stopped the Vistaril. I continued to have a remission for about another 6 months.
Then, this past Feb, I began having flares of pressure and frequency that lasted about 1-2 days. I have increased my Elmiron again, and am also taking Vistaril and Detrol LA again. I have also gone back to an IC diet.
About the same time I started having flares, I accidently ran out of birth control and so went off of it for about a month and a half. Not sure if that triggered the flares. Who knows?! I am having flares about every 2 weeks. I'm wondering if its related to my menstrual cycle.

Leanne21, sorry to hear you are having so much pressure in the bladder. I know pressure can be absolutely misable. For me sometimes I have severe pressure with urgency and freguency and sometimes it just urgency and freguency with alittle pressure. Detrol La helps little with urgency and freguency but helps with spasms, which causes severe sharp shooting pains. I was having problems with Detrol La, causing me to get overheated fast. I was taking it early in the morning, but my doctor told me to try to take it at evening time instead. It seems to help alittle better. I have not try other medication due to the sensitivity I have with other medication but other people on this board took other medication and it seems to help them. I hope that you can find some relief and help.
