OK, I don't want to sound like a commercial or anything, but I found a product that works really well for me and had to share.
I have an incredibly fair complexion. I can't tan naturally very well. It takes forever and I get sun poisoning. With my skin being that sensitive, I'm sure it's not the safest option, anyway. So, I just settled for being as white as can be because in the past when I've used sunless tanners I end up looking orange. I haven't used one in a very long time. This summer I decided to try the subtle tanners. The moisturizers that have tanner in them. I started with Jergen's for fair skin and was pretty happy with it.
WHen I ran out, I bought Dove's version. (Partly because I had a coupon for $1.50 off!) I love it even more. It's very creamy and smooths on nicely. There are no orange spots and it looks very natural. I'm not super dark, but have at least enough color so that I'm not so embarrassed to wear capris or a skit to job-related stuff.
Anyway, I had to share. I know I'm not the only one on here who is fair complected and all.

I have only tried the Dove and agree, I absolutely think it is terrific. It doesn't even take a week to start showing, more like 3 days. I buy the one that is a moisturizer with a little bit of the tanner stuff in it, and it is supposed to take a week to get to full darkness.

That's what I bought, too. It does start working fast. Really, I could see a change on the first day. Now I just use it about every other day or even every three days or so.

thanks for letting me know. I've been thinking about this, but yet been scared to try it in fear i would get that orange or rust looking look again. (i tried it when i was a teenager)
I got a question. When you put it on have you notice any darker tan spots on your knees, or ankles? Do you get that stain look on your hands after you rub it in??
I really want a tan look. I'm just to laying out every year, but this year I'm just too sick, and with the pain patch i ware if i get to hot i get sick to my stomach.
If you can answer these question for me I would really appreciate it.
Thanks again

I was wondering what the best sunless tanner is out there also. I tried the Jergen's, but quit using it after hubby said it made my feet look dirty, LOL. I haven't tried any others, because there are so many on the market, it's hard to decide which one to try.

I like the way that Dove works on my feet better than the Jergens. I spread it super thin and it gives just enough color so that my feet blend nicely with my legs. Otherwise, they're super white!
I've had luck with the Dove in not getting clumps of orange. I'm careful around problem areas like my ankles. I don't use it on the elbows at all. I haven't had troble with it staining my hands. I wash them when I'm finished, but not super scrubbing or anything. I did notice that I needed to make sure I also cleaned the lotion out from under my longer fingernails because they were getting a very slight orange tint to them! :)
My mom bought the Oil of Olay moisturizing tanner to try. She hasn't used it, yet, but I'll let you all know. I get my pale skin from her.

I tried the Dove one too and also had good luck -- not only did it work well but it has kind of a nice scent to it too :) Some tanners are GROSS smelling!
Usually, to avoid the smeary ankles and things, I exfoliate well first, dry well and allow my skin to become completely dry (wetness can cause smearing of tanner). Then, I put a little bit of Dove Cool Moisture regular lotion on my dry parts like the ankles, elbows, and knees... you know, where the stuff can get blotchy. I let that soak in for a few minutes, and then apply the tanner (Dove, or a European brand I love called St. Tropez Auto-Bronzante) gently with a cosmetic sponge -- it goes on lighter that way and I can see where I'm headed with it :)

I have been using Neutrogena build a tan. I like it really well. I can control the color, and it is very natural looking. For the feet, ankles, wrists, inner forearm, and elbows. I mix the product with moisterizer to dilute it some, so those areas get a hint of color, but not too much, and that way, it blends gently with the rest of my tan. I used to use the cosmetic sponge to apply it to those areas too, but I dont have to anymore, since I have finally gotten the hang of it. But, if you are remotely unsure of how to do it perfectly, then I agree, the sponge it a must! Also, never forget to exfoilate first. It is a crucual step that you cant skip if you want a perfectly smooth look, and dont want certain areas to grab too much color. Hope this helps! Happy Tanning everyone!! Hugs, Amy

Yes I guess the areas around my knees and upper thighs might be a little bit darker. I guess maybe you could try putting less lotion on those areas. This is nice because it is like a moisturizer with a slow sunless tanner in it. I have been using it like every other day. It you want to be pretty dark I guess then every day might work. I just like some color.

Another thing I realized over the weekend is that with the tanner working, my face looked bright white! The color of make-up foundation I use is similar to my natural pale color, so it looked a little weird. I started over the weekend mixing a little of the self-tanner in with my morning mosturizer and it's wroking great. Giving me just enough color so my face matches my body. I probably use about half and half. (And that's with teh subtle tanner that is a moisturizer anyway.) Just thought I'd share that as well.

I have used dov as well and found it worked after a day. I did however get very dark feet with it though. Still a very good product and smells nice too and not orange!
