HI. I'm not sure if I even have IC. I do not have any actual pain -just urgency. But it is all the time and very severe. I saw a urologist about three weeks ago who gave me some detrol and told me to come back in a month. Well, I had three terrible days and called the office today to try to get in sooner. I went in today and saw a different doctor in the same practice. Both docs were very dismissive of my problem and almost acted as if I was making it up. Even though the ultrasounds showed I was retaining urine in my bladder.

Anyway, I'm just wondering what I should do next. I am in Dallas if anyone knows of a good doc. I drink coffee and wine so obviously that will need to stop. I just feel desperate and like no one is even trying to help! I have been on thedetrol for two and a half weeks and I don't feel any relief. can the diet changes help quickly?

Also, I do have a pain on my right side, I think maybe near my ovary?? Could this be related? I thought I pulled a muscle in yoga but now I don't know.

Also, it literally takes me hours to fall asleep since this started -any suggestions?

I think I'd try finding another urologist. Have you tried calling around to other uro's in your area to see if maybe there is an office that specializes in IC? Surely the detrol would've helped by now if it was going to. I've never taken it so I don't know for sure how long it takes to work. Maybe someone else here who has taken detrol can be more helpful.

Take a look at the Patient Handbook http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/
it's chock full of information about treatments, medications, diet, and tips you may find helpful.

Hope this helps!:)

My advice is to get on the IC diet pronto! Coffee and wine could well be irritating your bladder badly which in turn causes urgency. Since I've been on the diet my urgency has gone way down. It will probably take a few weeks on the diet to get a true indication as to whether food/drinks affects your bladder, but the severe urgency sounds so much like I was before I got really serious about the diet. I used to pee my pants regularly before I found my bladder triggers as the urgency was so overwhelming, but that's pretty much a thing of the past these days. :woohoo:

Good luck.

Silverfern is right --- at the very least, stop the coffee and wine! That could be causing your pain. I think I would stick with your urologist at least until you have tried the medication for the month and stopped the coffee and wine. Doctors don't like to diagnose IC because they really don't like to see anyone develop incurable, painful diseases. I hope your symptoms clear up soon.

Warm hugs,
