My doc just called and said they had my urine cultured even though it did not show anything in the office. Well he said I had 10,000 bacteria. He said it was not enough to cause problems in a "normal" bladder but it was higher than normal and could cause problems with IC. He has me on duricef. DOes anyone know how much bacteria is normal?

That sounds awfully close to a real UTI if you ask me. I'm not a doctor, but that much bacteria doesn't sound right at all. I'm glad they are putting you on an antibiotic!

In a cath urine they claim urine is sterile. In a clean cath urine some bacteria contaminates are normal. The weakend IC bladder has been shown to be more suseptible to low level bacteria and these can increase the IC symptoms. This is why it is best to treat it!

Hope that helps!

HollyS, what is below 10,000 of bacteria is little.
10,000-50,000 considers to be moderate and doctor should give Rx for antibioitc.
