View Full Version : Are the cervical effects of this dangerous?
My doctor gave me a prescription for this, but the effects it has on the cervix (i.e., ripening and opening the cervix and causing uterine contractions) worry me. My doctor says it only happens in pregnant women but from what I've read, I don't think this is correct. This doesn't sound good to me. Doesn't it make you more prone to infections? I don't want to be walking around with a dilated cervix 24/7.
Or am I missing something?

I noticed after I took it that I no longer had cramps as badly as before, and I no longer pass clots as much. I really do feel as if maybe it widened the opening slightly and that's why my period can flow out more freely now and with less pain. The results lasted even after I stopped taking it. So I have the feeling that perhaps something did happen that way, but I have no idea if it's a good thing or bad thing or what risks might be involved. That's a very good question.
I haven't gotten an infection or anything yet. Actually, I'm glad for the change because I hated the clots and cramping and all of that.
Blessings,
Lori

Now If Your Cervix Is Widened More, This Might Sound Like A Stupid Question, But Forgive Me, I Have No Kids Yet, Just A Step-Son...Can You Get Pregnant More Easily???..I Only Know Animal Medicine!!

When I took this ,with my first period I had a lot of bleeding and many many blod clots. It was a mess for many days. I have been taking a pill for years that helped to lessen this but it had no effect after I took this pill. I bled heavily for many days. I do think it does effect organs down there and I myself would not keep taking it.
Thanks for your replies. Waterflow, that is scary. Did it continue or was that just for your first period?
I don't know the answer to the pregnancy question but that kind of makes sense theoretically too.
I wish my doctor knew more about this. I will ask my new gynecologist but I'm not seeing him for several weeks.

My period went back to normal the second month but I had stopped taking this pill. I guess it was to be expected (my uro told me) since it is used for abortions. You might have good luck with it. Some do. Hope your new gyno can tell you more.

That's true - cytotec is one of two pills used in conjunction with each other for non-surgical, first trimester terminations. I know of some women who would not take this pill ever, under any circumstances, because of how strongly they feel about the issue of RU-486.
Blessings,
Lori
