I just came from my new urogynecologist and he wants to do a hydrodistention under sedation on July 25. I am so scared as I have heard some have more pain afterwards. I have been in a flare as it is and do not want to make matters worse. What should I do?

Hi Holly, you are not alone on that one. I've had unconfirmed IC for 5 months now, and I also would like to hear words of encouragement or otherwise. I had one done when I was in my teens, but I was awake. Uro this time said it would be too painful awake. I remember the first time they put numbing stuff in before the catheter, lots of pressure, and then painful peeing afterward, but it didn't last. Nothing too dramatic. I think it's the putting me under part that's scaring me more.

That's too funny!!! You know I shouldn't be scared I was pretty much put right out when I had my colonoscopy and endoscopy. Is the anesthetic a full anesthetic or is it like the one for a colonoscopy. I'm so sensitive to meds etc...

You may be uncomfortable for a few days, but some of us actually find we have relief from the procedure after the recovery period.
Hugs,
Donna
