My daughter loves Sesame Street. She likes to lay on the floor with her blanket and watch it, especially the music and Grover. I'm pretty fond of the Count and Countess myself. :)

I know Jess, it is amazing how they watch so intently at the bright colors, Colten was hooked on the Wiggles at that age. Know it is anything on Nick Jr.

My kids are now 12 and 10, but they did not watch SS. But my daughter loved Barney. I knew every Barney song and ugg....Then my son loved the TeleTubbies. Something strang about them. I would have much rather watch SS though.

Anyone remember Captain Kangroo. I loved that show.

I watched Sesame Street as a child & I loved it! Snuffleufogus (sp) was my favorite! When my daughter's were born, I was kinda excited about being able to watch it again & not feel stupid, but neither one of them cared for Sesame Street very much. They were into Barney. I always thought Barney was strange until the Teletubbies came out. Then those Boobah's came out & I thought, well, I guess the Teletubbies weren't so bad. LOL!

Oh, I loved Captain Kangaroo as well! Mr. Rogers always creeped me out - especially when they went to Never-Never Land (or whatever it was called) with those creepy puppets!

I remember "the Captain". My youngest watched Barney. Don't have any grandkids (yet) but my newphew/niece has videos of Baby Einstein (think they know all of their stuff by heart), The wiggles, and whatever else is out there.

Karma I was thinking about the Boobah's but could not think of the name. They were totally weird....

She's not really interested in Barney or Teletubbies, but when Dragon Tales was on before Sesame Street she was interested.

Spongebob interests her, too, which is good, cuz I like that show LOL! I bought Muppets Take Manhattan on DVD the other day and she watched the whole movie...it is so cool, they are seeing everything for the first time and you kind of get to re-live it through their eyes.

Kim, my grandson (who I have a lot of the time) will be 2 in August & he's been watching the Baby Einstein videos since he was about 1. He is totally mesmorized by them. When he wants to watch them, he goes & gets his little chair, sets it in front of the tv & watches, and watches, and watches. It's totally amazing to me! My kids would never have sat still that long at that age. I went out & bought the 6 video set. Gave 1/2 to his mom & kept the other half here. And the good part is that he's learned a lot watching them!
His other favorite is Blues Clues. And I must admit, I kinda like that one, too!

You MUST get the Baby Einstein videos. Simply must - babies LOVE those.

We had kids over for a playdate a couple of weeks ago and I put one of the videos on for the toddler. Time stood still as ALL of us zoned out watching the Baby Einstein video - both moms, my 8 year old, 5 year old, her 5 year old and the toddler. LOL

LOL I am headed out to go shopping tomorrow and I put it on my list...if it gets Iz to zone out for awhile, I'm all for it! She's teething, so she's miserable and I'm exhausted LOL!

When Matthew was a baby/toddler there were nights he would wake up crying and nothing would calm him down. Food, drink, hugs, nothing. Scott would go out to the living room and put on a Baby Einstein video. He'd lay with Matthew sitting on his stomach and Matthew would watch while Scott would fall asleep. When the video was over, Scott would rouse enough to hit rewind and then play and the cycle would go on. :lmao: Those videos were the ONLY thing that settled him down those nights.

Kim that would be great!!!!! Nothing soothes my girl. Nothing!!! Cold rags, teething toys, rocking, gum rubbing, nada. Except tyleonol or motrin, and I hate giving her meds, ya know? I'm headed to the store tomorrow to get one of those movies. Thank you soooo much for the heads up.

One good thing is that once those teeth come through, they are happy again. I remember I used to freeze some teething rings for my kids so they could chew something cold, which usually helped. I also got some stuff, I don't remember what it was called, that I could rub on their gums and it eased the discomfort. It was suggested by our pediatrician.

And, by the way, my kids loved Captain Kangaroo!

Anbesol or Orajel are two name brands for the gum numbing "stuff". :)

ICNJess
06-30-2006, 09:50 AM
I tried the Anbesol but she didn't like having her mouth go numb. I can't wait for those teeth to break through. I thought she was too young for teething, but on my husband's side teeth start coming through around this age, and also I was talking to the pediatrician and she said that the teething pain starts as early as 1 month...so I felt more reassured.

Last night she had a crying fit that made her hysterical, then she gave herself a headache and I had to put a cool rag on her head and massage her head gently, along with the motrin, then she finally fell asleep. Motherhood really isn't for whimps!

Jess
Sorry you had a bad night. Becareful with the Motrin it says on the bottle not safe to use under 6 months old. Hope she had a better day and night for you. I swear by the Hyland's teething tablets. They are a god send to me with Colten and teeth.

My first tooth came in when I was six weeks old! Freaked my mom out.:lmao: Then I started losing my baby teeth before kindergarten. She took me to the dentist because she thought something was wrong. Dentist told her it was normal since I got my first tooth so young. The dentist pulled my first two teeth, and they are the only straight teeth in the front of my mouth.:loco:

Six weeks!!! WOW!! Are you the first born? Your mom must have really been freaked LOL!

Kim,
Bought one of those DVD's and so far she is loving it! Thanks for the suggestion...though I'm a bit afraid that my husband's getting into it! :)

Hugs,
Jess

LOL yeah, it's really bad though when you walk around all day singing songs from the shows, like on Sesame Street I know all the songs by heart now. I need a life!

Jess,

Natalie is three months today and has if you can believe it three teeth coming through all at once! :dizzy: Putting her pacifer in the fridge helps a little.

Jen

ICNJess
07-05-2006, 07:18 AM
Oh no Jen!!!! Three at once...that is horrible! I thought two was bad LOL!

I thought about the pacifier in the fridge, but the pediatrician said they have a tendency to bite down on the pacifier with their new teeth, and that can cause irregular dental problems. The reason I asked is because it happened to my neice and the doc confirmed this. The teething rings are a bit big but she doesn't seem too interested anyway.

I found this interesting teether that vibrates and massages the gums, but didn't get it...I should have! GRR.

Jess,

Natalie's teeth haven't completely all broken through yet but I'll have to watch that...she actually wants to chew on her pacifier even when it hasn't been chilled! We did get some teethers to chill but they are ackward and she isn't interested right now.

I did see a version of the vibrating teether that you chill on ebay recently...it was listed under classic pooh teethers I think.

ICNJess
07-05-2006, 02:03 PM
I'll have to check out the chilled vibrating teethers. I was wondering if she would even use it since the other ones are kinda big for her little mouth. She really likes having her gums massaged, though, but sometimes it hurts. I just feel so bad for her! Her bowels are all messed up, she's coughing from the excess saliva, and she runs slight fevers here and there. I brought her in thinking she had a cold but it was just the teething. Ugh!

Have you seen the Kammi teething doll? If the other teethers are too big for her mouth, this one seems like it would work wonders!

Jess,
Though of a few more kid song earworms:

Sing, sing a song
Sing out loud
Sing out strong
Don't worry if it's not good enough for anyone else to hear,
Just sing, sing a song.

or
C is for cookie that's good enough for me
C is for cookie that's good enough for me
Oh, cookie cookie cookie starts with C.

Sunny days, sweeping the clouds away,
On my way to where the air is sweet,
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street?

and one more

OH I love trash.
Anything dirty or dingy or dusty,
Anything ragged or rotten or rusty,
Oh I love trash.

You can kill me later.:evilsmile

How about this one?

Come on everybody to a street called Sesame
There's something very silly that we'd like you all to see...something something something...our show isn't fancy but it's noisy and it's free...the honker ducky dinger jamboree!!!

We have the Sesame Street sing-a-long DVD...yes...hours of FUN LOL.

Great...the trash song is stuck in my head. I heard it earlier and I was singing and it finally left, then I come across your post Barb!!! :)

As for the teething situation, she's getting 4 (ah ah) and she had her shots yesterday and has been sick as a dog since. I am ready to pull my hair completely out.

Talking about teeth...my 4 year old was born with a tooth. She has been going to the dentist since she was 6 weeks old because the tooth rubbed a sore on her toungue as she sucked. She didn't get any other teeth til she was 10 months old though....wonder if she will lose hers early? Hmmm?
