http://www.ic-network.com/images/0606logolarge.jpg
It's been a long time since we began this journey to find a new logo for the IC Network that would be hopeful, encouraging and beautiful. It's really quite hard to do something that relates to the bladder and the picture of a bladder just wouldn't work at all for us.
So, I found Barbara Getrost, an artist in California who specializes in art celebrating pregnancy and asked her if she would take a stab at doing a logo for someone with pelvic & bladder pain. This is what we jointly came up with.
The flower over the bladder symbolizes hope and beauty. That we are beautiful even when struggling with IC!
The vine winding around the pelvis symbolizes growth in a positive direction.
The hand holding the vine shows the importance of the patient in being involved with her health care and healing.
In otherwords, the flower can't happen without the vine... and the vine can't grow without the patients support.
We're now setting this up to go on tee shirts that we will sell!! Maybe even cards and the like.
What do you think?? I hope you like... as it cost me a bundle... to have made just for us!
(FYI - I did this from a feminine perspective because my plan was that it be worn by women... on shirts, perhaps tote bags, whatever. In my devious mind, I also have another plan... which is another funny tshirt that is just words... or text... suitable for all ages. But, for our site and for overall tone, I'm embracing the feminine on this one and went with a design that, to me, was just peaceful and encouraging. It will ONLY be printed on women's teeshirts... not men's tee shirts. )

Jill,
I'd like to be the first in line to order these T-Shirts. I'd love one on a Coffee Mug (even though we don't drink coffee)
BUT: I'd like it to say somewhere on there (forgive me if someone has already mentioned this) I'd like it to say somewhere on there what the T-Shirt is representing like the whole vine and flower thing you said. It does not have to say IC on it but rather the explanation you gave.....so when people look at it they can see it and then ask about it. What a great way to spread to word to others about the IC struggle!
I am soooooo excited and can't wait for the T-Shirts to come out. I will buy one for every family member that has supported me in this cause.
It's worth every penny that you spent on it and will be worth every penny that we spend on it.
Let us know when we they will come up for sale and we can purchase them!
Thank You SO MUCH WE NEEDED THIS FOR SO LONG!

Awesome!!! Will there be a saying on there, like something to do with IC or the ICN?

Jess you asked my question.. :) I too would like to know if the saying will be onthere? I think it would be wonderful it it was, that way it is explained. also mention it is about IC... some people may think that this is in reguards to pregancy.

Cindy,
One of my first thoughts about the image was that while it is beautiful and the symbolism is wonderful, it looked like an image that was on a prenatal poster in my OB's office.

After i looked at it again it could be a baby flower being nurtured like a baby in the belly. But hey even with IC you need that extra thought of nurturing.

Unfortunately, I agree, it does look like something for pregnancy. I think it would take a lot of explaining if worn, and my hubby, although he supports me so much, he wouldn't wear a shirt w/that because its so feminine. I do NOT mean to stir anything up. Only my opinion.

I agree that it would be confussing and I would probably get a lot of joking questions from my family.....and I doubt men would be too willing to wear it. It is beautiful but I think the picture is confussing.

The minute I saw it, I felt peace.... just what we all strive for, in many ways.
Thank you for creating this work of art! I wish us all a pain-free future, sooner than later.

The picture that is posted is in black and white. I think that when it comes out and there are colors added to it, then it will look different to some of you who think it looks like a pregnant belly etc.
I think the design is out of this world!! I will buy a few no matter what!:smile tee

I wanted to echo Jen's request that it be available in a variety of sizes--the Yoga stuff was awesome but way too small. I also have family members who wear larger sizes and would also pay extra for it. Any thoughts of a car magnet too?

It is a beautifully drawn image, but I can see where Windwalker is coming from. The design is reminiscent of... well, pregnancy. It would not exactly be fitting for men with IC, or children with IC.
Maybe later, we can come up with a seperate shirt for the guys and the kids?

Oh Jill, it's beautiful!!! Really!
I can see where there could be some confusion with the pregnancy aspect, but I have no problem with that at all...I've said before the my bladder is my baby, treat it nice and feed it what it wants, and it will behave. :)
I personally don't often wear t's, but I think it would make a beautiful print to frame, or like you said, a card or something to put on the fridge to remind us not to eat all that bad stuff in there, and a reminder about the part we play in healing ourselves.
I like it.

Hi everyone. The first thing my husband said when he seen it was it looked like pregnacy. He said the guys with ic would not wear that.

I agree, it is a lovely logo...but geared waaaay more to the women...I personally don't really wear girly stuff like that on a regular basis...I think I'm more edgy with my personal style...I KNOW the guys won't wear it...if it could be a bit more androgynous....I'm not sure.

LOL. Well, as the saying goes, you can't win em all. I did this from a feminine perspective because my plan was that it be worn by women... on shirts, perhaps tote bags, whatever.

:( hoping there will be some shirts for men, kids or even those that would prefer a not so feminine shirt. My hubby plays in a local band and if the shirt wasnt feminine he'd wear it to gigs. I'm with Yvette, although a wonderful design, I just don't wear "girly" clothes. So, I'll keep checking to see if anything else comes up. Glad there will be something for those that will wear it :D Please don't think of this as a bashing on the design, its not, its just an opinion.

Jill: Personnally I think the logo and meaning of it is beautiful, and I'm sure
most of us women agree with the feminine aspect of the logo. From my experience and from alot of what I have read on the forum, the majority of us women don't get much compassion from our husbands or partners, family member, friends, etc., and this will be something that we can wear knowing in our hearts the meaning of it and it will give us support in itself. (Which each and everyone of us need)!!!! I do say BRAVO to the women who have husbands who do support them with compassion and love, as they are very fortunate to have these rare men in their lives. And the idea of the other tee's is also great. But speaking for the women out there that live as I do, you have done an exceptional job on the logo and the meaning really is beautiful. Putting this logo on cards, tote bags, etc. is also great and will maybe get the message out there to the ones that don't think IC and PPD is a real disease that it is. I know here in Canada, it is not as recognized as it is in the States, and I would be proud to wear the tee and answer any questions I may be asked about it . Thanks again for all your hard work that you do for us ICers.

Remember that there are men who have IC. The design looked at first glance to be pregnancy related. Nice shirt for those who like it, but don't forget that this disease is not gender biased.
I would have hoped that we would have designed something for the disease, not a specific group. Now, when a design is made for kids, men, etc... there will be 2 designs for IC, and you start to lose identity.
Just my 2 cents.

Jill ---- AWESOME design and meaning. I think it is beautiful and will purchase shirts and other items. :woohoo:
I can see the point for men and children and it sounds like you have a plan for them in the works. This kind of stuff takes time. So I am sure, in time, that there will be something for everyone.
Thanks for all your hard work on the design and thanks for making it so meaningful!!!

I think that the print is awsome it had me in tears reading the whole story behind the drawing and the meaning of what we are and what we need to be. I think that it is great and what a great why to spread the word so that people can become more aware. I think that you did a wonderful job and I cant wait to see it for sale. I know that my money will be spent well.

It is so pretty. It is wonderful that you've made something pretty out of something so ugly and mean. That is how I think of this disease--it is ugly and mean to us, but we are making progress. My friends are really making sure people know that I don't just lay around because I want to, but because I am in pain. I think it will be worth every penny! You've got a great eye.

I think that "Willoweyes" described IC perfectly - IC in my eyes is also a very ugly disease, and it is furiousis and cruel, and if we are not treated by our doctors with the proper medication we suffer pain that is so unbelievable, that most of us can't explain it. I am very fortunate because I have doctors that treat my pain without hesitation because they know how severe it is. So I agree with Willoweyes that the tee is something that is beautiful for something that is so, so, ugly. And I am very sorry if I offended any men out there who think the tee is too feminine. I know that there are many men out there that also suffer with this disgusting disease, and my heart goes out to them. I was talking from a feminine aspect, as most of us women suffer with this disease and have no support from our spouses. Whereas I feel, if the shoe was on the other foot, the majority of women seem to be caregivers, and whenever my hubby has been ill or had surgery, it seems to be instilled in us to take care of and to feel compassion maybe from being mothers. I'm probably opening a can of worms with what i am saying, hopefully not. Personnally, I have a male friend who is a cardiact surgeon who was just diagnosed with this rotten disease, and he used to think that it was all in my head, and that I was overreacting to the pain. When he phoned me and asked me what my exact symptoms were, (before he had been diagnosed), I told him and he replied, "Oh my god, please don't tell me this is what I have."Sure enough, it was and he has sure changed his tune towards me now. He can't believe how awful it is to have this disease, and being a heart surgeon he say's he has changed his way of looking at is patients. He has a wife, ( who I would like to have for a husband) who treats him with kindness, love and COMPASSION. So to all the men out there with IC, my heart goes out to you as I know you suffer as we women do. I am sure there will something that comes out that is co-ed, and everyone will be happy. I am not a womens liber, or a man hater (I love men), so I hope I didn't offend anyone with my last post re: tees.

It is lovely art work. When my 13 year old son saw it, he asked if it was a symbol for a pregnant woman. My husband then took a quick look at it, and thought it had to do with breast cancer awareness. I asked him how he came up with that?!?!!? When he took a closer look he said, oh I didn't notice the waist at first glance. So, when I covered up the waist, I was able to see how he thought, at first glance, it might have to do with a breast.
