I have a friend who had IC, went to 5 different Urologists, before they acknowledged it as a "condition". She had hip surgery 4 years ago and has not had a recurrence since. You know, they give you tons of antibiotics before and after hip surgery to prevent infection. I don't know which ones they gave her though. Does anyone know what they give you for hip surgery? She said she had a "pack" on the wound site that had antibiotics in it, and maybe a drip too.

I have IC and am looking/hoping for a cure.

IC patients go into remission all of the time for any number of reasons. It could be that because she was hospitalized, she modified her diet. It could be that the pelvic floor tension of her hip condition was giving her much of his bladder/IC discomfort and after surgery that was resolved. It could be any number of things. Please remember that IC is NOT bacterial in nature and using antibiotics is not effective in "curing" IC.

While we certainly can't cure IC right now because research hasn't completely figured out why our bladders heal so slowly, it is definitely treatable. Diet, medications, self care, etc. etc. are all very helpful. So, rather than go for the lotto of a mystery and unproven cure, focus on daily care and proven therapies. Even that one cup of coffee a day is devastating to an IC bladder.
