I stumbled upon this website today and found a section called "Fad Diagnoses".

http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/fadindex.html

This particular area caught my interest, as they list Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and Leaky Gut Syndrome as a couple of fad, untrue diagnoses. When you go there and click on the Multiple Chemical Sensitivity link, it brigns you to a new page, which upon reading further down, a paragraph states that this disease is psychological!

I thought I'd just pass this along--more ignorance--for those with Leaky Gut and MCS. My uro once told me he thought I had leaky gut rather than IBS, so this article was a little interesting to me.

I agree that IC is not psychological .

i was diagnosed with leakyh gut in february- i have been really sick with it .
i could only eat oatmeal and pears for 2 months. i lost 20 pounds and now have to drink a nutrition drink with vitamins and proteins since i wasn't getting any. i was very weak for a few months and am still trying to beat it. my doc did accupuncture to calm it down which it eventually did.did not help ic ,endo, ibs but did help my intestional tract. its starting to be better. i went from eating only oatmeal and pears to oatmeal, pears, chicken or salmon.she is just allowing me to add in one food at a time but then have to wait 48 hours before i eat anything new. i can now eat-chicken,fish,oatmeal,salad(no dressing) and plain baked potato.i am still weak from lack of sleep and nutrition. i have had ic since i was 18(now 38),then ibs in 2002,then endo in nov of 2005. then the intestional tract problem. i think i have lost a few more pounds but my doctor doesn't want me to loose any more.it has been a nightmare for me . please take it seriously. its been a struggle for me . when i couldn't figure out why i was in so much pain in aug .went to er which was a waste of time.i finally got someone to believe me and had a lap in nov and diagnosed with endo.surgery did not help. so not only was i struggling with ic and ibs but now endo and the pain. then in feb with the intestional track.
i was in despair and thining about ending my life. i couldn't deal with the ic pain, the endo pain and the stomach problem. i had no one to support me and was in despair. i am little better.

I hope my post came out the right way...I was trying to say that I think these are real diseases, and it just amazes me how much of a split there is in the medical community. I am so sorry you went through such an ordeal, that sounds just awful.

My uro thought leaky gut syndrome because I go through periods of time where I can lose 15 pounds in a month and be sick as a dog, with no real known reason why. I have had a colonoscopy and nothing was found.

Anyway, I am sorry if I offended anyone, I didn't mean for it to sound as though I thought these were "quack" diagnoses.

I think that is why so many people get discourage because when the doctors don't know the answers, they will say it is all in your mind.

Year ago, I was getting major headaches, went to the doctor, just to be told, it is an emotional problem. I went to the eye doctor and told him about it. Found out I was only using one eye at a time. I had a lazy eye when I was liitle, and patches over the eyes alot. Because of it, I learned to use one eye at a time. He said I was having what you call a migraine in the eye. HMMMMMMMMMM, guest something was really wrong.

Not all doctors do this, but if you think something is wrong keep pressing in.

jess214,
i was not offended at all. i just wanted to point out that this is a problem some people struggle with. i am still not recovered yet after 4 months now. i can only add one new food at a time then wait 48 hours to try another food which i think i said before. so i am able to eat a few more foods and discovered their are still some foods i cannot tolerate. i hope everyone has a pain free day! please jess do not think i was offended because i was not.

Your post was just fine, Jess. The eyes cannot be reverse. I was told it would cause more damage, if I try to work with it now. But I'm ok, I have learn not to over exert the eyes.

Courtenary, hope you start feeling better, and I hope healing will come soon.
