Just started and have a question

I started cytotek last night (100mcg twice a day), and had cramps from about 2 hrs after I took it, the cramps are the same as my period pain cramps, but I don't have my period right now and I'm not due to have it anytime soon....

In the patient info. I saw that uterine cramps occur in something like 1% or less of patients.... just wondering if this happened to anyone else?

I experienced intestinal cramping similar to menstrual cramps as well for the four days that I was on it. I stopped for that reason. I'm not sure if the cramps were in my intestines or my uterus though.

I started with a lower dose (50 mg first day) and gradually built up very slowly. I had some intestinal cramps which eventually went away. But I stopped cytotec and now I'w wondering if it did help, because now I'm in a big flare. Good luck.

I have been taking Cytotec for a little over 3 months, I did have that briefly but it went away, actually had it two days ago again but still taking it, wasnt enough to stop me, lol, can't tell ya if its doing anything yet. :)

Hi Pv, I cant say either way if I feel better or worse, I can say I have had a huge flair due to either white choco m&m's or acidophilus pearls, had both same two days and quit both same day. Before that, felt the same as always, I am still having burning daily from this flare (had it since wed or thurs of last week) and frequency, although the horrific bladder spasms seem to have calmed down. My general pract. is the one that ok'd the cytotec, he said, lets give it a go and here I am. The plan is to be on it the full six months so I am half way there. After finishing I will report to both my gen. pract. and my uro to let them both know if I feel better/worse/same. Hoping for better tho. My gp (gen pract) has been my doc for over 20some years and knows me very well, he said he believes we know our bodies well enough to make a decision and agreed this was a good one to try. We shall seeee. ;)
I take elmiron three a day, atarax 10 mg twice a day and ditropan 10 mg once a day, down from twice a day!! I take marshmallow root and slippery elm here n there, drink cornsilk tea for burning here n there and only if necessary, pyridium plus (half of one usually helps me all day). If I am having bladder spasms, for me I will feel it in the bladder area then my urethra literally feels like it gets pulled "up", I will take 1/4 of a flexeril to knock that out.

Did You Start On A Lower Dose And Work Up. I See My Gp This Afternoon And Plan To Ask Him If He Will Give Me A Script For

I've been on 100mcg twice daily for about 1week now and tonight was probably the worst ever.... not just menstrual type cramps, also stomach ulcer like pain that had me doubled over and crying... kyopectate (spelling) was very comforting though and made me feel better in a matter of seconds... I'm seeing my regular doctor on Friday, and I think I'm going to ask her about this! If the antacid (kyopectate) didn't work tonight, I am certain that I would have ended up in the er, because the pain was just beyond belief! I want to stick with this medication though for at least 6 months, because I really really really want it to work! :confused:

Hi--I have been on this med for a couple of months. I have had a couple of stomach cramps but compared to IC pain it is nothing! I am having great success--I am coming off a UTI and it would normally take me forever to get the pain under control but 3 days later I feel better and better. I am very, very sensitive to medication but so far so good or great! Malone

Malone thats great news! Louise sorry I didnt respond sooner, just got online. I take 200 mcg three times a day (TID), I didnt start slowly, just started taking it three times a day w/meals (or pretzels when I take em before bed). I had stomach nausea a cpl times and some minor cramping but nothing to stop me. :) I still dont know if its helping because of the flare I seem to be coming out of. Plus when I first started it, I was also diagnosed w/a uti. Soooo, I am being patient and taking it for the full six months. If you got the script give it time and I hope it works for ya.

Thank You All For Your Support And Encouragement. My Gp Gave Me Rx For The Cytotec Last Night And I Picked It Up Today. I Got The 100 Mcg Dose So I Could Alternate The Dose. A Pharmacist Friend Said To Start With 50 Mcg. But The White Pill Is So Small, I Am Not Sure If That Would Be A Good Idea. I Think I Will Just Take One 100 Mcg. Once A Day For A Few Days And See How The Side Effects Go.

Malone, I Am So Like You - I Get Side Effects All The Time - Even The 1% Ones That No One Else Gets!!! So That Is Why I Am Very Leary About Starting The Cytotec. I Want It To Work On The Ic Pain But I Am Also Concerned About Getting Bad Cramps Or Diarrhea.

So Please Wish Me Good Luck And Thanks For Being Such A Great Support System. I Really Need It Right Now.

I Was Wondering If You Found You Had Any Weight Changes While Taking The Cytotec. One Rx Site Said There Could Be "weight Changes" As A Side Effect Of The Drug. Well, I Took My First 100 Mcg. Cytotec Last Night And No Problems. I Know It Is A Small Dose, But Since I Do Have Problems With S.e. I Want To Start Slow And Work My Way Up. Because of the fact it says take w/food, I was overeating at first to make sure I didnt have an empty stomach, so because of that, yes weight change, but now I can take it w/two pretzel rods and have no trouble, lost two pounds this week lol, now, just to keep it off! :)

The "stomach" pain I was having is pretty much gone now!

I'm happy to say that I've decreased my ultram from 4 times a day, to almost only once a day....

Tonight I had orange juice, salt and vinegar chips and vegetable lo mein with soy sauce.... no prelief or tums or any type of antacid.... and NO FLARE!!! before I started this drug, I would have been in soooooo much pain now.... but I have NO pain, and NO burning...

I Am So Glad The Cramps Seem To Have Passed For You. Can You Please Tell Me How Long You Have Been On The Cytotec? I Think You Said You Were Still Taking 200 Mcg Twice A Day, Is That Right?
I Took 100 Mcg. For Two Days And Today I Took One At Breakfast And Plan To Take Another At Supper. So Far I Have Not Had Any Stomach Problems, But Then I Am Very Early In The Stages Of Taking The Cytotec. Thanks For Your Help And Info.

That Is Wonderful!!! I Am So Happy For You. Are You Still Taking The 200 Mcg. A Day. If So, Do You Take Just The One Dose Or Do You Take 100 At A Time. I Just Started Taking The Cytotec This Past Thursday. I Only Took 100 Mcg. For Two Days And Then Today I Took Two Of The 100 Mcg. I Think I Will Stay With The 200 Mcg. A Day For A Few Days And If I Am Still Not Having Any S.e. I Will Increase The Dose By Another 100 Mcg. I Don't Want To Get Too Hopeful But I Feel As If The Cytotec Might Be The "miracle Drug" I Have Been Waiting For These Past Thirty Years.

I'm taking 100mcg twice a day... the first week I totally avoided acidic food though because you're not supposed to take antacid with magnesium in it (like tums) while taking this drug.... it says so in the patient pamphlet that comes with it... These last few days I've become more lenient with acidic foods/drinks though and so far so good... last night I had food with soy sauce again and orange juice and still no flare! I'm so happy this drug is working for me because I had no luck with elmiron, it only made my hair fall out and gave me a stomach ulcer!

I Am So Happy For You With The Results You Are Getting From The Cytotec And What You Are Able To Eat And Drink. I Cannot Imagine Doing That!! Hopefully When I Have Been On The Drug Longer, I Will Be Able To Do That Too. I Have Only Been On The Cytotec Since Last Thursday (3-4 Days). Do You Recall How Many Days You Took The Drug Before You Noticed Some Improvement In The Pain?

Are You Planning To Increase Your Dose? Did Your Doctor Give You Particular Instructions As To How To Take The Cytotec? Mine Just Said To Work Up Slowly To Try And Avoid The S.e.

I'm sticking with the dose I'm currently taking... my doctor just said twice a day with food!

It takes at least 2 weeks for it to start working...... today I forgot to take my neurontin which I guess is a good sign that my pain is decreasing!
