I probably know the answer to this question already but thought I'd double check. I currently have a UTI and am on Cipro for 10 days. It's Day 2. Feeling ok but still a little burning and incontinence. My (stupid) question is.... Is sex out of the question until the infection clears for chance of repeat infection? I've been apart from my fiance for several weeks and am finally going to see him for a week but it looks like we'll be doing a lot of cuddling... :)
Thanks,
Sandy

I'd avoid it ....because of the reason you gave and because an infection is hard on the bladder which is causes tension to the pelvic muscles....sex can be hard on the pelvic muscles too....I would say you probably want to wait a bit longer.

None the less there are no stupid questions around here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sure hope you feel better soon.

Also....the infection may clear up in 7 days....the 10 days may be to guarantee it is completely gone because you don't need any dammage from an infection to your bladder :grouphug:

You might want to talk to your doctor, but I'd say sex isn't a very good idea for at least a few days.

Thanks so much Katrina & Donna -

I don't know what I'd do without all of you and the support and knowledge you give. I agree that sex is on hold but the most important thing is for me to clear up this infection and I think it's a bad one. I'm worried about all the incontinence as I never had this symptom with a UTI before. I still have burning although it's not really as intense as before. I just hope it goes away as I am going on vacation soon and would hate to have to go to the medical center out-of-state. Thanks again for all you do to keep this site running and to help so many of us.

well it seems to me that the irritation from your infection is causing your pelvic muscles to be very unhappy....they tighten up causing the burning (although the bacteria itself does that too) and thus they start to weaken which can make you have spasm....incontinence. I suspect things would improve after the infection is gone but something with an antispasmodic in it may help you get through till than. Pyridium plus may be a good choice right now. You would have to talk to your doctor about that but I wouldn't worry too much :grouphug:

Incontience happens with UTIs because of the fact you've got a weakened bladder due to the bacteria. I don't neccessarily experience incontience...but I have felt like a sudden quick move might make me pee or have drops, I'm not too sure but when I sleep I dream of peeing and I'm scared to death about bed wetting. But all that gets better after antibiotics.

If you've got UTIs for a long time, I doubt ten days course would clear it up.
