I am trying Lyrica. I am on 75mg 2 times a day and weaning off my Nuerontin by 800 mg per day for a week. Did anyone have any luck with urgency with this pain medication?
Thanks,
Kara

Hi Kara -- I'm sorry I have been away from the ICN for a while, so haven't been responding to your posts before now :grouphug: First, I'm really glad to hear you made it through surgery but have read about phantom urgency and am so sorry you must go through that.
As for Lyrica, I began on 75mg 2x a day, and went up to 150mg 2x a day. I find it helps with shooting nerve pain that occurs with IC, and that it has really helped my fibromyalgia symptoms as well. It hasn't totally relieved my IC pain though and I still take other meds with it. I consider this a success though -- I hope you have a good result.

Week One: Lyrica 75mg 2x a day take Nuerontin. 800mg 3x day instead of 4
Week Two: Lyrica 75mg 3x a day take Neurontin 800mg 2x a day
Week Three: Lyrica 150mg 2x a day take Neurontin 800mg 1x a day
Week Four: Lyrica 150mg 3x a day NO more Neurontin
OK HERE IS MY QUESTION: I started taking it yesterday and have noticed the urgency go from urgency to burning......I wonder if this is part of the process or if it's a side effect that will go away with time. How long should I give this med a try? I don't feel we are going to make it all the way up to 150mg 3x a day. I don't feel it's needed. I think the lower dose may do. I already notice a change but it's more burning instead of urge to pee.
What side effects did you have with your Lyrica? Did any of them have to do with the bladder? Did they go away with time?
I hope you are well Jen!
Kara

Hi Kara,
I had mild dizziness/lightheadedness the first few days I took the medication, but didn't notice any bladder symptoms. At first, I thought it was doing NOTHING for my bladder or for my fibro, which is another reason why my pain doc prescribed it. However, slowly but surely, improvement happened... I wish I could say my bladder was 100% better, but I don't have as many shooting pains down there as I used to, which I think is good.
It has really been great for fibromyalgia in my case, though. It's really helped reduce that morning stiffness and pain that made me feel 95 years old in the a.m., and I don't have as much neck and back pain. I mean, the symptoms are still there sometimes but they are nowhere near as bad.
Anyway, basically, I had almost no side effects from Lyrica...

I am taking 75mg of Lyrica in the am and 150mg in the pm.I started it because of the discs in my neck are protruding and causing nerve pain and numbness in my arm.I have been on it for a good month now and it seems to be helping my IC,too.Only side effect I have noticed is a little hazyness with my mind and trouble concentrating. good luck to you with all your troubles.

Have been on it about 5 days and noticed decrease in urethral burning today, lyrica 50mg bid.
But this could also be influenced by the nerve block I had yesterday the pain clinic which is finally kicking in. I am praying it is working. Aileen
Lyrica- I think is causing constipation, so back to the Miralax

I've been taking Lyrica (150mg bid) for about 6 mos with fairly good results, hopefully it will continue to help you as well. I have a nerve block scheduled for this coming week and would love to ask you some questions about yours, if you don't mind. My pm Dr is doing it to try and help reduce the pain I have that radiates from my shoulder blades to lower back and around to the pelvic area. I'm crossing my fingers that it will help some. What exactly did they do to you during the procedure? Did they have to use any iodine or an IV Contrast Dye? Thanks for sharing...I'm a little in the dark about what will go on during the procedure :(.

all they did was put me to sleep with iv Diprovan- then shoot put me under a c-rom x-ray machine to view my spine, the insert needles on right and left side of spine and shoot in meds to numb the nerves that radiate around the bladder/urethra area- that is the only area in my entire body that has had pain. Today I am not in pain. They say it can last for 3months with the Lyrica.

I am down to Neurontin 2 times a day now and Lyrica 3 at 75mg.
Doing well so far. I started to notice it working on the phantom urgency on day 3.
Do you notice a change when you area about to take your next dose? Like do you have pain all of a sudden and then it goes away a little while after you next dose?
That is what I am noticing. I am hoping that 3 times a day will cover itslef or overlap itself so it does not wear off....
Anyone else notice that they are needing the next dose?
Kara
akrose-
That sounds like the same thing I was told, only their not putting me to sleep...how was your pain afterwards? Did you have pain/swelling at the injection sites?

they put me to sleep with Diprivan and I am glad, because the idea of needles in my back really frightened me. No pain at injection sites in back, just ecchymosis. have noticed reduction and urethral burning, or it could be the Lyrica, or it could be that after 6months I am menstruating, all I know is no pain today. Just have the block it could only help
