7:30 am is my appointment for a Cystoscopy and Hydrodistention.
I'm worried about them putting me out. Do they use the gas or a shot?
and a machine has to breath for you?

I was already diagnosed with an in office test when I was awake for the whole thing. Three years ago.
Now I have a new urologist who seems to be great.
And I'm really hoping that the procedure helps me feel better.

Please tell me there is nothing to worry about.

How long does it take to recover?

I was freaking out in the days leading up to my cysto w/ hydro. The biggest thing I worried about was the anesthesia. For whatever reason the day before I was calm and no longer worried. I had done a lot of praying about it and was finally able to let it go.

My experience was just fine - the anesthesiologist was great and I did wake up afterwards! ;) You'll be fine - I'm sure they'll take good care of you. If you're anxious - tell them. Most anesthesiologists work so hard to help you be as comfortable as you possibly can. :kissing:

You'll be fine. You won't be on a machine to breathe for you. After you are asleep, you will probably have a plastic tube inserted in your mouth to keep your tongue from closing off your bronchial tube, but you will be breathing on your own.

The anesthetic is usually administered in the tubing of the IV you will have in your hand or arm.

Sending gentle hugs,
Donna

I'm always nervous, no matter what's being done. I think that's very common! I'm sure that you'll be just fine! I'd much rather have a cysto done under anesthesia than in the office & I've had both! I certainly understand your wanting to get it over & done with. It will be soon!

Please make sure you know what you are signing when you go in. When I had mine done 8 years ago my urologist fulgarated my bladder while she was in there. I have found out since that she cauterized normal tissue called leucoplakia (I'm sure I've spelled this wrong). I was purple from my navel to my knees for a week. I suffered horribly. The only way I could urinate for the next couple of months was sitting in a hot bath. I truly have never endured such pain. This women ( a female urologist in Tampa Florida) never told me that she was going to do any burning in my bladder. We never discussed this, ever! Please be careful, ask a lot of questions. Look at what you are signing!!! Best of luck to you. Most people don't go through what I did. I think my case is rare. Every urologist I have seen since has said she had no reason to burn out the tissue she did. It was not cancer but normal tissue. Please make sure that this fulgaration is not on anything you my sign.

Best of luck
Karen

You will be fine. I think being nervous is normal. I'm having one done tomorrow as well. We'll wish each other luck. Let me know how you do.

They actually did cystoscopy and a urethral dilation, for some reason I was thinking Hydrodistention. what is the difference?

Yesterday was awful but today is OK I get a really strong tickle feeling when I pee. yesterday I had pain and bleeding when I peed so I'm glad I was better today and not worse.

I Also got pictures of my bladder and on my post-up visit my doctor is going to change my meds.

the doctor told my husband that he almost got 400 cc into my bladder.
When he can fit 1000 cc in a normal person.
I thought it was 600 cc in a normal person "shrugs"
Maybe they can fit 1000 when a person is asleep though.

Luckily when I got there they gave me something to clam me down the whole visit was OK better then I thought.

Thank you all for you help I was not as worried going in.

I didn't think they did those dilations anymore. From everything I've read, they are not effective for anything. I had one of those done in my teens and I'll never forget the pain. I had it done in a doctors office with nothing to even relax me. It was awful.

I hope you'll soon be feeling better. Please read up on the urethral dilations before you let them do that to you again.
