I just want to give an update. Last time I wrote I had been flaring for at least 6 weeks. My dr. put me on Nystatin orally and after the 3rd day I started improving. I had been to the gyn and the yeast wasn't showing up down there when she did a wet prep, but I have yeast systemically. I still have symptoms of IC and vuluvodynia, but I'm doing so much better. I'll be on the nystatin for a total of 3 months. He started me on 1 tab and I am working up to 4. I hope this helps someone else! Grace

I am very happy for you!
Please tell me, how do you know you have systemic candidiasis? Was there any blood test or you can say from the symptoms? Can you tell us more about them?
I have many such symptoms: migraines, bloating, bladder or vagina spasms and pain-I am not even sure which one is which, frequency, white coated tongue. But none of the tests (blood, stool, vaginal discharge) came out positive, while anticandida diet and medecines have helped me in the last week against flare-ups.

Is there anyone else out there who gets yeast infections atleast every month, or am I the only one???? Last month I got 1 yeast and 1 bacterial. Sometimes I feel so alone, because I always have some sort of ailment.

Sorry you're suffering! You're not alone! I struggled with alternating yeast and bacterial vaginosis thru all of my 20's. For some reason, I outgrew the bv and haven't had problems with that in years. It was a vicious cycle, though, bv, antibiotics, yeast, over and over again. Still have problems with occasional yeast, but it usually takes care of itself now within a couple of days.

I asked that same question about systemic yeast a while back. I think the answer I got was stool sample, but I see you've have that done already.

Nystatin is one of the few yeast drugs that will kill yeast in the intestinal system, and it sounds like your dose and duration are effective. You are lucky you got a doc who had the sense to Rx enough to kill the stuff, as some of these Gynos act like Diflucan is a Heroin Rx. For persistant infections you need enough of a dose for longer time and probably a switch in medications say from Diflucan to Nystatin.
If you keep getting re-infected seek out a yeast specialist who will do allergy testing, stool testing, blood testing and cultures before Rx.

Grace, so happy that it is working for you! :woohoo:

All:
Yes quite a few IC patients have had Chronic yeast or yeast infections once a month or worse. There is hope though....it is possible to find a way to get it under control!
Sammie had some great advise on that!

Thank-you Ela and Katrina! My dr. had me fill out numerous forms and then decided on tests. I had a blood test done and a microbiology (stool) test also.Yeast showed up in both. The blood test showed I have food sensitivities also. I guess with leaky gut that is normal. I have bloating and other digestive problems, ibs, and recurrent l yeast infections. I also get a burning tounge on and off, not sure it is because of yeast or not. I really hope this is a big part of the puzzle for my health problems! Good luck to you! Grace

 Read your posts on Nystatin. Have had Yeast infection last
2 - 3 months. just like you said, my GYN gave me 1 tab of DIFLUCAN.
Didn't work.

Saw my Neuro-Urologist today. Asked him if he could do a WET PREP
and he said that hardly anyone does them.
Asked him to do Culture to determine what kind of yeast I have.

Not getting anywhere with him, so asked him for Script for NYSTATIN.

PROBLEM: I assume you all get the Vaginal Tablets in NYSTATIN.
Target's wholesaler doesn't carry them - only topical cream
and oral suspension (thrush).
Costco can't order it either.

Where are you getting NYSTATIN from? I live in Baltimore and would
like to know who carries this drug?
Are all you using the oral suspension form?

And I asked several doctors, - can't find a "yeast specialist". GYN's
seem too lazy to culture Yeast along with Urologists so where does one
go from there.

At this point, I know the Diflucan doesn't work, and want to try the
Nystatin- without waiting for the culture - because I have been in
Yeast Limbo for so long I can't take one more minute!

Sincerely,
Diane

Diane, I am taking nystatin that is an oral pill. It is prescription only. I've been to 2 doctors who will help with yeast. I found both by word of mouth actually. The one I'm working with now left hmo so that he could spend more time with patients ( my first visit took 1&1/2 hours) . So my insurance only covers him at about half of what it normally does. I'd try your closest health food store and ask the owner, or the help there if they know of any doctors that help with yeast. Both of my drs. are mds. but they left some of the traditional thinking and do more alternative stuff. After I started going to them I found out at my health food store that they were well known with their customers. I live in a small town and both of the drs. are out of town, but only 30-45 min away. Hope you get some relief soon, I know how you feel about needing help NOW!

Sami or anyone who can help,:)
An update on me, I've had a lot of l dryness lately and now itching and not sure if I could have an l yeast infection while on oral nystatin or not?? I know it will clean out the intestines, but will it clear an l one?? Maybe it is just drying me out? Or maybe I'm clearing out yeast and it's irritating. The itching started about 3 days after I upped the nystatin to 3 pills. Anyone have this experience? I do have a bit of l atrophy going, but it was improving. Thanks for any help! Grace

Diane...I agree with Grace here. :grouphug: I must admit that with yeast I have gotten way more help from my gastroenterologist than any one else. And probiotics was my many gastro's treatment of choice. The problem is getting one strong enough to really do the job.
Hopefully Sammie has more advise on getting a yeast specialist....I know she has given a link to others but I haven't yet copied and pasted it into my list of links to give out...woops me.

Grace,
do you have any ph test scrips? If so I sugest if you can testing the ph of your vagina.
I get extra dry when I have yeast.

it is far to durn around and go too far the other direction and get similar problems....hard to know which is going on for sure but that would be my guess:grouphug: hope you feel better soon.

Katrina, thanks for reply.
I have a script for the Nystatin - had a feeling it came in pill form, and
a suppository.
My question is: What pharmacy does one buy it from, as none in
Baltimore carry it?
It is now Generic, but I can't procure it from any pharmacy here.
Any suggestions?
Sincerely,
Diane

Nystatin is one of the oldest anti fungals on the market. It your pharmacy does not have it on hand, if you have a RX, they will get it for you in a day or so. Most pharmacys do have it. One of your best bets is Walgreens and they will order it, if not in stock.
