How many with IC feel they have to pee constantly? Is that common?

I was diagnosed with IC three years and that has always been one on my symptoms......

Other than pain, having the constant feeling of needing to urinate is my main complaint.

Youre not alone!

Take care

When I was symptomatic that was my main symptom.

Holly, I had that constantly need to pee feeling, but when I would go I would find that, nope - just kidding, maybe next time - or the - ok, here's just a little dribble. And as soon as I was done, I still had the need to pee feeling. So then I would not go because I didn't think I really had to go, and - Wallah! I'd either wet my britches or just barely make it to the pot on time. Gawd, that was so frustrating!! I would be in tears at times cause I was just at my wits end!
Thankfully, I have finally gotten that all under control. I still have frequency, but the urgency thing is gone. I hope you get to feelin better, too!

Thank goodness for this board, because in real life my significant others really don't want to hear about my constant urge to pee. At least not for the 5th consecutive day! I am lucky that it only comes in waves of days and then subsides. It use to just come when I ate certain foods. Now it just seems to come because I have a pulse. I eat the same things in the same amounts in the same variation every week so why do I have it one set of days and not the next? I am having more and more symptoms that seem less diet related.

This is my only symptom too. How on earth do you treat this?? I've tried so many things and still no relief! I've been on Elmiron for 6 months now and I've also just started on overactive bladder medication and still nothing! I also take Aloe Vera capsules. I'm so frustrated! This disease is such a mystery. Why is it so hard to treat this?? Sorry, I'm just letting it all out. Having one of those days.

Has anyone got any suggestions on what I should try next??

Danii, what finally got my urgency under control was CystoProtek. You might look into trying that.....

I am anxiously awaiting my cystoprotek to come in the mail. How long did it take to work for you?

Hi Holly

I'm actually trying to order it right now on the internet. I'm from Australia so it's really expensive. It's going to cost me around $120 for 1 bottle and postage. I just hope it works for me.

Yup, that's my main symptom, which has yet to disappear.

Holly, Alganot says that it could take 3 to 4 months before you see any results from CystoProtek. However, I started seeing a difference within about 2. But I was really watching what I ate & drank.

Danii, OMG! That is outrageous that it costs that much to get it sent to you! That's almost what I paid for the whole starter kit. And one bottle won't last you that long cause you have to up the # of pills you take as you go along. That is just ridiculous that it costs that much!! Gawd, I hope you see as good results as I did!!!

The CystoProtek started working for me within the first month. When I am flaring, I have that constant urge to pee, as well.

Are any of you taking OB medications and still feel like peeing? Sometimes even raising the dose helps.

I'm on an overactive bladder medication and I still have the urge to pee all the time. I've only been on it for about 3 weeks now. Maybe it's takes longer to work or maybe it only really works for people with Overactive Bladder not IC.

Me too, I'm taking overactive bladder medicine, but still have problems. I even try not drinking alot of water, major mistake. The medicine does help me with the severe spasms. That is the only reason why I still take it.

BEWARE: I am taking Detrol LA. This medicine can cause you to not sweat. I was outside in the heat, not sweating, and then I was beginning to have the symptons of heat stroke, my body could not cool itself down. I ask my doctor about this and he said, the medicine can cause this to happen.

I'm not sure if all overactive bladder medicine can do the same thing. but please be careful. No one told me about this, I learned the hard way.

I've been on OB medicine for 3 and a half years, along with Tofranil (trycyclic antidepressant). That combination worked great or me until I got a bladder infection last month. Now I'm having a hard time getting back to where I was.

Ditropan did not help me with urgency/ frequency.
Elavil helps me the most with frequency and sleeping thru then night. Down from 30-40 times a day to just hourly now.
Drinking lots of water keeps my urine diluted while calming my bladder.
Pyridium also helps me a lot. My symptoms are not constant as they used to be, but at the first sign of burning, increased frequency, or pain, I take Pyridium and that usually gets things under control within an hour. :)

Welcome to my world. I always feel like I have to go. Ditropan helped a little, but if I was not careful, it would cause retention. The fine line is excruciating any way you slice it. Hope you get some relief.

Yep, I pee all the time. 20x's a day I estimated. Pain with bladder refill, and urgency.:toilet: Might as well live in the John. I do not take OB meds. Doc didn't prescribe them.

I've tried Enablex, but didn't help the urgency, and caused retention and constipation...not good! What should I ask my Uro for...an antispasmodic, a muscle relaxer or ??? Is ditropan the same type of medicine as Enablex? Anyone have luck with a certain med so I can try it. Urgency/frequency driving me nuts!

Enablex, Ditropan and Detrol are all meds for Overactive Bladder, so they all work basically the same, to try to stop your bladder from signaling you that you have to go to the bathroom so frequently. So in a way, they are antispasmodics. I am fighting constipation with the Enablex (15 mgs.) worse than when I was on Ditropan XL (10 mgs.), but it has helped to quell this current flare. I am having to load up on Metamucil capsules and several doses of mineral oil per day. I tried to swich back to the Diropan XL last week, but my bladder was miserable within 12 hours-or-so. I am going to have to stick with the Enablex for now and combat the constipation as best as I can.

I don't know if a muscle relaxer would help or not. These are the meds that I am on and together they have helped me tremendously:

Enablex 15 mg. --- once per day at bedtime
Tofranil 25 mg. --- 1 per morning, 2 at bedtime (Antidepressant)
Zyrtec 10mg. --- once per day at bedtime (Allergy Medication)

I am also following the IC Diet pretty closely: no caffeine; no coffee, decaf or otherwise; no chocolate, no fruit or fruit juices.

And I take Prelief tablets before eating acidic meals, though I mostly try to avoid eating those types of food.

I hope that you and your Uro can find the drug, or combination of drugs, that will give you some relief soon.

Pelvic floor disorders can also cause urethra stinging, and spasms and the constant urge to pee. I didnt believe it either, but my vulvar specialist referred me to a physical therapist and when she pushed on certain internal vaginal floor muscles, I had to pee and had urethral shooting pains. Go figure?

Hello all,
I was just wandering if anyone else here is on that new OB "patch" Oxytrol?
I was told the good thing about it is it is released directly in the bloodstream and doesn't have to be filtered through the liver. I just started using it and so far, I have noticed a little diffence. Only been on it a week though.
Has anyone else used it?

You guys are the best!
