Does anyone have recurrent UTI's with IC? I am curious because my Primary Care Doc says I am having them, but the urologist is saying that it is IC. Howver, they keep putting me on antibiotics that make things worse sometimes.

There are quite a few people who have IC and recurrent UTI's.

Any time we have catheters inserted, it puts us at increased risk for infection. I personally haven't had one for a long time. There are times when a flare feels like infection; my preference is to have a culture done before taking antibiotics.

I used to get quite a lot of them. I have one now, going to the doctor this afternoon.
I guess the simplest way to solve the disagreement between your doctors is to make sure you have a culture done each time. If it shows infection - then you indeed are getting infections. I have IC and had bad recurring infections for awhile - it's definitely possible.

Yes, I used to get recurrent UTIs - 5 or 6 a year. That was before IC started up and continued when my IC was still a problem. My bladder has healed up a lot over the past couple of years and I've only had one UTI -- a typical, uncomplicated one -- since then.

I am one of the odd balls icers here. I get UTI after UTI. My uro always sends my urine to a lab since my UTI's normally come back diff. most times so he can put me on the proper medicine to clear them up. Just last night I notice I have another one started. I got luck and made it a little over a mth this time without having one, but the last UTI i had was a very bad one that required IV anti. for a week then ten days of tequin. My Uti's also go into my kidneys which makes it harder to treat.
the best way I know to tell you to solve the problem is ask both Dr's to send your urine off to a lab each time to be tested. I'm unsure why one one Dr says you are getting them and another one is saying your not. Is both Dr's doing a urine test?? that is the only full sure way of knowing. bacteria will show up if you have a UTI.
I do hope you the very best, please keep us updated on how you are. If you want to talk privately please feel free to PM me threw the ICN anytime. I then will give you my email addy. if you have yahoo messenger I will gladly give you my yahoo i.d so we can talk too if you wish too.
remember we are here for you, We do understand, we do care.
if you haven't already please look over the ICN handbook that can come in very handy. also it has the IC diet listed in the handbook which is a must for us icers.
Sending you hugs and prayers

 That is what they are telling me. My records are marked for cultures no matter what. I never get anything from the cultures. I am still concerned that the VA does not know anything. My interstim doc is outside the VA system, so hopefully he can answer my question.

They do send them to the lab. I think it is the way they read them. I know that when I passed another stone recently, one doctor told me it was a UTI. My main docotor said no it was a stone, and ordered a cat scan. Sure enough, I had a stone. My white cell count was so high is was almost blood poisoning.
