I can't predict exactly what your experience will be, but I can give you a run-down on what happens when I have a hydrodistention.
When I arrive at the hospital, after I have an arm band attached (I think it's so I won't go home with the wrong daddy?), and a medication allergy arm band on the other arm (allergies to penicillin and sulfa), I am taken to a pre-op room where I undress and put on a hospital gown. The nurse comes in and takes vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, listens to heart and lungs, etc.), weighs me and gives me pre-op medication to help me relax. By the time I am wheeled to surgery, I am usually getting sleepy. Sometimes they start an IV in the pre-op area, but usually it's in the surgery holding room, where they put a cute little hair cover on my head and I meet the anesthesiologist who will be keeping me comfortable during the procedure and time in recovery room.
My choice of anesthesia is spinal so I watch the procedure on a TV set in the actual surgery room --- it's very interesting.
I spend about an hour in the post op recovery room, then am taken to a regular room for an overnight stay. Many, if not most, hydro patients go home the same day, but my uro likes to keep me overnight.
The good news is that this procedure has always helped significantly with my IC symptoms.

Hey there :) It'll be okay. Go ahead and click on the link above -- it goes to a thread in the "Cystoscopy and Hydrodistention" board, and it contains a lot of stories about how people's hydros went and all the stories are very positive... I think you will enjoy it and it may help you with your anxiety about the procedure.
The other thing is, talk to your doc and see what he plans to do -- ask questions! He can help alleviate some of your fears as well
