View Full Version : Had my Botox
OK..Had my botox approx 3 weeks ago and let me tell you my pain level has gone from a CONSTANT 8-10 to a daily 2 to maybe a 3, the ONLY downside is that when you have to pee...you better find a bathroom QUICK!!!!:toilet: (learned that one the hard way).:lmao: I have my follow up in a week and at that time he will decided if he needs to do a little more now or wait for a few months. The good news is there were no ulcers in my bladder..yipppie:woohoo: ..the only comment he made after that was "your bladder just looks like raw hamburger meat"....yummy-makes me wanna run out and have a burger:rolleyes: . Anyways, just wanted to let you all know....

Hi Rhea,
Do you know if the theory behind botox is that it just relaxes bladder spasms or do yo think it works also by actually doing something to the defective lining? Does it reduce inflamation ( raw hamburger meat )? PV

I am glad the botox helped you. I had it done a while ago, and it helped me alot, except I did have retention for a few months. I think I am going to do it again with less units.

Does your insurance pay for your treatment? They wanted to use Botox treatments for my migraines but my insurance would not pay for this and it was $600.00s a treatment.

This is wonderful news!! I am very happy for you. I just have a few questions, (if I am not being too nosy. If this is too personal, dont feel obligated to answer.) Do you mind telling us if insurance covered, and if you had to pay anything out of pocket, and if so, how much? Also, how often do they think you will have to repeat this? Where (exactly) did they do the injections? How many did they do? Were you knocked out for this? How long is the relief suppossed to last? Will you be able to go off your other meds? How often and how many times a year can you do them safely? Are their any side effects and risks? Did you feel better immediately afterwards, or did it take a few days to feel better?
I told ya I had alot of questions! LOL! Sorry to ask so many, but I have a friend who is considering this, and she has been wondering these things, however she is a lurker who doesnt feel comfortable posting yet....(no matter how much I encourage her to do so!)
Thanks in advace for you help! And Congrats again on your success!!! Hugs, Amy

Hi Rhea
Where in Fl do you leave? i had my botox done in Miami. I can't believe he is going to give you botox again after 3 weeks. You really have to what 6 months to have another one. Deborah Bush
Yes-my insurance paid for it-I had to pay $100 for out-patient surgery. I had it done in different places in my bladder, the bladder floor and in my urethra. It should last any where from 3-9 months, depending on if they got all the "right" spots. The only big side effect is you have to drink LOTS AND LOTS and when you have to pee...better find a bathroom. I am not off all my meds but have cut way back on breakthrough meds, which is good. Still use the Fentanyl patch, take atarax and Valium at PM. I started feeeling the results within 48 hours, but going through pelvic floor therapy and that is a bit#*. I go and see him on Friday and I think we are gonna have to go back in for a few more "spots". He was very cautious due to can cause retention (which we all know sucks big time). I will keep you updated. Oh, and as for the insurance thing...I have great insurance with Aetna.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE INFO ABOUT YOUR BOTOX. I'M SCHEDULED TO HAVE IT DONE ON THE 26TH FOR THE FIRST TIME. I'M A LITTLE CONCERNED
ABOUT RETENTION BUT PAIN RELIEF OF ANY KIND WILL BE GREAT. HOPE YOU CONTINUE TO IMPROVE.
MY INSURANCE WILL NOT PAY FOR THE BOTOX..(BCBS) BUT WILL PAY FOR THE CYSTO.
GOD BLESS:angel:

Everything went fine, had 200 units injected in bladder only. No pain for 2 weeks, but having retention problems and having to cath 3 - 4 times a day. Also, feel very weak. Started having pain in urethera 3 days ago - guess I irritated it with all the caths. Called my doctor today because I'm concerned about infection. He doubled my antibiotics. I'm just waiting to see how long the retention lasts. Have follow-up with uro next week. Still taking my Elavil at night. Thanks for your concerns.
