Patricia, thank you kindly for the info, would you rate him as a doctor who really cares and understands all that comes with IC, you know alot of them think that all the pain is just in your head and refuse to address the issue all togather. I e-mailed my former doc at Methodist(Dr.Brookoff) and he gave me the name of a doctor that he said was great, unfortunatly he was in Knoxville, I have traveled that far before(Houston,Tx) but just don't think I have it in me anymore, Are you getting the treatment that you want and do you feel satisfied with the way he is handling your case? If so then I would definitly be interested in making an appt', here in Tupelo, if you even as mention that you have some sort of pain well they want you out the door for fear that you might be an addict or just after some medicine, which is absolutly crazy to me, I have a 10 year old and certainly do not want meds for the reason other than needed, funny how people who are in pain get labled, well thank you again and I will definitly make some calls, Judy

Hi Judy, yes, he really listens and acts like he's really trying to help. He took me off a lot of meds & the DMSO treatments my old urologist had me on. I'd been begging the old one to take me off elmiron, dmso, and several other things because i just seemed to be getting worse & worse.
Dr. Gubin asks many questions about your symptoms & really seems to try to come up with the right combination of medications to make your life easier. I haven't needed pain meds, but I feel sure he'd prescribe them if i asked or needed them. I've felt better in the 3-4 months that I've been seeing him than I have the past 3 years. He really listens.
One thing that really helps when I go see him....I drew me up a little spreadsheet with columns & a ranking system. I rate my fatigue, spasms, pain level, fever, count day & night frequency, & note any other items that might help pinpoint triggers & show him the history of my symptoms from the time of my last visit. He uses this, along with my list of meds, to tweak my meds to best suit the symptoms.
I was about to just give up trying to get help after my last urologist beat my confidence down. Didn't really have much hope of getting help. Dr. Gubin makes you feel hopeful & treats you like he actually believes you...and that means a great deal!!
He's over at Baptist East Hospital on Walnut Grove in Memphis. I don't have his address or phone number here at home, but will be happy to get it from work if you'd like to see if you can get an appointment.
How long have you had IC? Do you ever have a fever with it? I haven't had it in about 6 weeks now, but I was having a 102-104 temp for 4-5 days straight, hallucinating, so weak I couldn't raise my head, sweats & chills, memory loss, lack of concentration, disorientation...kinda felt like the flu but I'd have it every week or two. Was really wearing my body down. Dr. Gubin and my primary care physician don't think it's caused by the IC, but no one can find anything else.
Please let me know if you need any further info on Dr. Gubin. Hope you're doing well.
Patricia

Patricia, I coudn't have asked for a more detailed background on a doctor, thank you it means so much to have someone so caring. First of all, my doctors all thought I had endometriosis and were always just using that as a diagnosis, but it didn't explain the urgency or the food that irritates me, nor fever or any of the other sypmtoms and it sure didn't explain why everytime I sneezed I had a need for a diaper-gross! Well finally when I went to Methodist in Memphis and saw Dr.Brookoff, but for my back, he did research of course about my past medical history and he was the one who knew exactly what I was dealing with. The strange thing is I have 3 ruptered disks or herniated some people say either one, and that also contributes to the IC, as my back is weak which in turn makes it harder on my bladder and whole urinary tract. Unfortunatly, Methodist closed their pain clinic which left me in a world of hurt-no pun intended, here in Ms. doctors do not write Rx for any pain med, for fear of all the druggies we must have here, which hurts those of us who really need them. I was weened down so far from my meds that I could hardly function and with the withdrawels on top of that it got to be where life was unbearable, had it not been for my psychiatrist, who I dearly love, I don't know if I would have made it as well as I did, plus my faith in God kept me alive, and my 10yr old and wonderful husband, who is so compassionate to the pain I am in, most men or I should say,, some men might not believe that, there are days when I can't do anything, I haven't had that in maybe a couple of months, but its probably just around the bend. I too keep a journal of whats going on with my body so that it does make it easier for a doc to understand, if you can't tell him whats going on, in your own body, well he can't be a mind reader, I am going to look in the yellow pages for him and see if I need a referral and see about an appt. Is he in by hisself or in a clinic? I will also if you don't mind tell him that I was told by one of his patients, what wonderful success she has had, so I wanted to give him a try. I thank you for being so indepth and I pray that you as well as all of our fellow sufferors, have more pain free days and that one day there will be a cure for all this pain and suffering, there is nothing like the power of prayer to get us through. I admire you for not having to take any pain meds, how on earth did you get to that point, I have been off of them but not by my choice, I just hurt too bad, I would love to get to a point where I too didn't have to take any, as I know that it can't be good for ones organs to have all that filtered through everyday, you are a very considerate and caring person and it has been my pleasure talking to you and I look forward to talking to you again. Thanks kindly,Judy

Hi, I am from N. MS too. It has took 6 years to get a diagnoses. Dr's down here are stupid. They have milked my insurance. It is so bad now that I can't do nomal things even housework without pain, much less work. I just would like to be able to do more things for my kids without pain. You are right that Dr's here don't want to prescribe pain meds. Seems awful funny how you hear in the news about all these people being caught with prescription drugs selling them. How can people who aren't in pain get meds and ones who are not. I just don't understand. I need this pain to stop. It is all I can do and get out of bed sometimes. The pain is so bad I think of bad thoughts. I just can't live like this anymore. Please send me info on this Dr in Memphis so I can get an appt. My neice who is an LPN works for urologist in Tupelo don't prescribe pain meds unless you are having surgery. They don't do much for IC patients. I just want to feel almost as good as I used to. I know I will never probably be like I once was. I was very atheletic, a Military Police officer and even going to school for nursing. This pain has taken over my life. Now I can't do anything much. If it werent for my friends and family I don't know how I would have made it this far. Thanks for your help. Great to hear that I am not the only one with this problem around here. :help: :bonk: :cussing:

Hope you get some relief soon. It's so difficult to deal with all the day-to-day problems that go along with IC and it helps just to have an understanding and caring doctor.
Not sure what insurance they accept, but I have Cigna & they take that.
I'm so thankful to have this website for everyone to share info & to just vent. 'Normal' people just don't understand how badly it wears you down & how difficult it is for us to give up so much in our lives that we enjoyed but are no longer able to do.
Hope we all have a wonderful, pain-free, energetic day tomorrow!
