The pills came in the mail yesterday and I took the first one, around 1:30, NOT frozen. About an hour later I had the worst stomach and intestinal pain. I was doubled over in pain and had to lay down. I felt horrilbe the rest of the day and the pain even grew worse. Now I am afraid to try one frozen. My stomach and colon still aren't right this morning but I feel much better than I did yesterday. Anyone else experience this kind of pain? Do you think I should try one frozen or send them back?

I've only tried them frozen though since I have a sensitive stomach. I think it may be giving me headaches though. Maybe you should call algonot. I woman there named Denise can probably help you decide what to do.

Thanks Tracy. I emailed Denise about an hr. ago and she has already written back saying to wait a few days and try one frozen. My stomach is still bothering me. I have gastritis and when it becomes inflamed, it can take weeks to calm down. I am mad at myself for not freezing the pills before trying one. I will have to get up my courage to try again.

I can relate to that, I stopped the Elmiron due to some unfortunate intestinal side effects, so I am paranoid at any little pang, lol. But on the flip side (I too just started the Agonot almost a month ago now) it has the anti-inflammatory properties, so should help with inflammation anywhere (joints, intestines etc) and it lists those things as being helped in the literature.
So, I hope the longer I am on it it will help my intestines as well... that would be nice!! ;) I too freeze them and make absolutely sure I take my dose with a meal, and I have actually done really well!!! :)

I have constant gastritis too , but the protek pill HELP it!!
They help my stomach pain very much.
Try oozing out some of the contents and spreading it on a piece of toast with some butter - or better yet - omega 3 fish oil.
Then do the same thing the next day. Just half of one..
I eased into it due to fear. Then I noticed they helped my stomach.
I like the taste now too.

My stomach is still bothering me today so I am going to wait till it calms down and try taking the pill frozen. I afraid to try it your way since it wouldn't be frozen but thanks for the suggestion, Ellie. I am hoping it will eventually help my stomach like it did yours!

I would choke on a frozen protek. They are so big.
I think when you took it the first time, it may have "landed" on a sore spot in your stomach, hence more pain.
if you spread it out on a piece of toast, or mix it in some mashed potatoes, you wont notice it in one area.
Just a thought.
Here is what I do that stops my stomach pain:
Get Blue Diamond almond milk.
and some ultra clear sustain powder:
http://www.metagenics.com/products/catalog/detail.asp?pid=18
Mix this in a blender. I am able to tolerate 1/2 a banana in this and some pear juice or papya.
Put it in a pan and heat it up a bit, but dont "cook" it. Not in teflon and do not microwave it. Drink it very warm. It will sooth and heal your stomach.
Also, you could eat instant oatmeal, cooked in the above mixture.
Spelt toast ( not wheat ) , baked or sweet potatoe, applesauce, and maybe some cottage cheese.
The key is getting the warmth into the stomach.
Eat very small meals, and do this for 4 days. ( You are over stressing your stomach in some way. When the stomach is sore it needs to rest, and have room to churn the food up, when you fill it up too much, it cant do this. )
Then try the proteck again, only one, spread out.
I also take Colostrum, vit E, omega 3, probiotics, Biotics - Gastrazyme, L-glumamine, and then 2 Protek and one cystaprotek for my bladder.
I also drink warm chamomile tea first thing in the morning and in the afternoon. Soothing when it is warm, and good for the bladder.
I am 90% pain free in the bladder for the past 3 months. I follow the diet abouit 70%. I am now able to eat a bit of organic yougart and several fruits that I could not tollerate before. I also drink evian water in the evenings. When I do this, my bladder is happy all night long, and sometimes all day too.
Hope that helps.

I'm taking Elmiron and I'm on my second day of Cystoprotek. Today I'm having some stomach pain. Elmiron and Cystoprotek is probbaly too much for my stomach. I'm taking Cystoprotek with food jut 1 pill in teh morning (that's the first 2 days dosis) and 3 Elmiron a day. I don't know what to do, change Elmiron back to 2 pills a day only ( I was doing that my dr is ok with that b/c she knows I have gastritis). Should I take less Cystoprotek than is recomended? Or let my stomach calm down and then try again?

I think I would contact the company on the Cystoprotek dosing - they would know the best way to go, and I hear they are VERY friendly and helpful in matters like that. On the Elmiron, I would only change my dose if doc says ok, and it sounds like yours gives you the go ahead on that matter! :)

I still take 3 a day of the cystoprotek. It still upsets my stomach every time.Like waves of naseau and like my stomach and intestines are rolling. It sucks, but the pain does let up for awhile.I'm not sure if I should quit it or not.And why do they say to freeze it? I have never heard of this before. Thanks for the info. I dont think sensitive tummy's are for this pill. It's a tough one,I think. Celine

Celine, Are you freezing it? How long have you been taking it?
Are you taking it with food?
The whole reason to freeze the pill it is to avoid the pill to melt in the stomach. I'm on my 3rd day with this pill and I'm still just taking one pill a day. I'm afraid to increase the dosis. I'm freezing teh pill.
I don't know how it'll be when I increase my dosis to 2 pills twice a day. I'm a dissapointed. I thought going the natural route would not upset my stomach and I'm reading some people are having stomach problems with this pill.....
I wonder what ingredient is causing the stomach problems. Is it the olive oil?
I wonder if that ingredient is is really a crucial ingredient of the pill.
There are some many IC patients that can't take Elmiron and other medicines b/c of stomach problems, I'm one of them. I still take Elmiron but I don't know if I'll be able to continue for months or years.
I wonder if Algonot could make a Stomach friendly version of this pill so that more patients could handle it.
What about other Algonot products for IC?

The olive oil is the delivery system for the components of the formula. They found that not only was it a good anti-oxident, but also allowed the body to absorb more of the "active" indredients (For lack of a better term) than most other brands/formulations. There's a ton of info on their website and from what I have read here, the staff seem very helpful!!! ;)
