Ok - I'm getting really nervous here and have been getting a lot of anxiety. I had burning and itching and actually some sores down below. I went to the gyno. and my pap smear and other cultures for STDs, Herpes, and Genital cultures were normal. The sores went away with the antibiotic and never came back. I have been with my fiance for 8 years and we are totally faithful to one another. The gyno gave me antibiotics and diflucan and wanted me to get tested for diabetes. She never came out and told me that I had a yeast infection but I'm assuming she saw yeast. I do not have any itching since the Diflucan but I still feel damp on my underwear. I do not have a UTI and the home test was negative for vaginal infection. My question is this....How come everytime I look up yeast infections, it comes up with HIV??? Should I get tested for this? Are yeast infections common in people with IC? I don't have any thick cottage cheese like discharge and no itch. I'm so nervous though. I think she wanted me tested for diabetes because of the yeast and I don't have diabetes. Please help. I'm such a wreck. It's been 8 years now and I would think I'd be really sick if I had HIV. Any information would be appreciated. Sandy

Yeast infections could be a little more common in IC'ers b/c of all the antibiotics many of us have taken through the years. I used to get them anytime I went on an antibiotic.

I think HIV comes up when you do your searches b/c when the immune system is depressed, people are more suspectiple to infection. I remember it coming up when I had a lot of vaginal itchiness and burning that we had trouble diagnosing. It scared me, too, but that sure wasn't what it was.

In fact, my youngest son had thrush A LOT as a young infant and searches I did on that popped up HIV info. left and right. That terrified me - even though I'd had HIV testing during the pregnancy as a routine test.

Try not to worry - I really doubt you have HIV. Some women just seem more prone to yeast than others. :kissing: Do you just have the wetness now? Maybe it is just discharge - not any kind of infection.

Sandra,
I was recently had my GYN for vaginal pain, and upon microscopic inspection she saw yeast. I was started on a month long dosage of Diflucan. I was/am asymptomatic so was surprised when this was found.

I have no answers why your search keeps coming up related to HIV-maybe because its common among HIV patients...? I dont know. I do know though that diabetics are more prone to yeast infections, assuming from the abnormal sugar/insulin levels. i dont think your Dr's recommendation to be tested for diabetes is unreasonable. I was recently tested per my GP's suggestion (a couple weeks prior to my GYN visit) via a simple blood test.

Re: the HIV--youre the only one who would know whether a HIV test should be done. Again, its a simple blood test. In my personal opinion anyone who's sexually active should be tested.

Take care
diana

Thanks for those who replied. I feel better knowing that yeast is common in people with IC. I was on antibiotics (a very low dose) for a year (this was several years back) but maybe that is was caused this yeast. I don't know but it sure helps having this website. Thank you!!!! Sandy

I think yeast is a very common problem with ICers - I was recently at ob/gyn and she said that I had alot of yeast in vaginal tract. I had just gotten back from vacation where I eating lots of sugary stuff, so I think that brought it on. there was a recent thread where this woman said she went on a candida diet and it cured her IC - I am very interested in the connection between IC and Yeast - there's alot of pseodo-science around it, so it's difficult to truly understand what the interaction is. I think the best thing to do is to really cut back on sugar, white flour and other highly processed carbs. - good luck !

You might just drop into the yeast area on this website. You will find a lot of ICers with yeast and they share their discoverys.

I was ordering something on line from a alternative site and i told the woman I have IC and she said she used to pee all the time until she went on an anti-yeast diet and she claims she is better. (the yeast was in the bowel).
