I am freaking out my gyn won't refill my vicodin and I am only 10 days post op and still in alot of surgery pain. She told me to take motrin 600 mg every 6 hrs and take the ms contin I get from my pm. Don't she understand motrin makes my ic worse. I don't know what to do. I guess I will have to take ms contin and hope it helps me.

My suggestion would be to try the ms contin first --- it sounds like she is turning you back to your pain management doctor for pain control. Hopefully, the post operative pain will ease shortly.

MS Cotin is way more potent then vicodine. I am sure she doesn't want to give you to much pain meds since you have a pain contract with a pain clinic. She is just worried about over medicating you.

Most doctors will only prescribe a certain amount of pain medication after surgery, especially if the patient has a contract with a pain management center. I'm sure she doesn't want to cause a breach in your pain contract and cause you to be dismissed from the pain clinic's care. My advice is to take the MS-Contin, and perhaps call your pain management doctor to ask for advice during this post-surgical time. :grouphug:

I take ms-contin on a as needed basis, it is more potent than vicodin and hopefully it will get you over this hump. I am so sorry you are feeling so bad, and I will be watching to see how you do. Hang in there and take the meds, you will be ok on them, your body is in pain so it needs a little (or big) boost to get thru this rough time.
Lots of warm fuzzies headed your way,
Sonja:flower:

Have you asked your Dr. why she won't refill your vic? If she says she doesn't want to compromise your Pain Management, you can then explain to her you have already spoken to that doc, and they said it would be ok. If she needs something in writing from them, I am sure they could provide her with whatever she may need.

Maybe you also need to try to explain to her that Motrin can aggrivate IC bladders and not all of us can take it, and you don't want to swap one pain for another!

Take care!

Kim,
She may be scared because you have other health problems. My gyn was scared and also told me to take mortin. (he only knew a small bit about Icers, and not enough about IC to treat me.) as soon as I left the hosp. I called my uro's office. a week later i needed more pain medicine. I called the gyn office, but they wanted to take toral. (i can't take that either.) I then called my uro. Who knew i would be suffering and my IC would be flaring badly for about three to six mths. He wrote out my pain medicine. My Uro was the one who help me threw out all of these issues with pain. why? because he knows me. He knows all my health issues, and he also knows I'm not your avg. run in the mill icer.
I guess my point is she may be scared she is barking up a tree she knows to little about or she thinks since your own such powerful pain medicine that should be enough.
If I was you I would turn to your Dr. who normally treats your pain. Let him/she know that your gyn is no longer controling this and you may need a break threw medicine for the time being until things settle down. (which may be a while. :( )
Hang in there!
Rhonda

I would think that the ms contion would be enough to get you thru.. I was only given a 10 day supply of vicodine with my hysterectomy too..
I would diffently give it a try.
