what causes the awful stinging pain deep in my bladder when i stand up? sometimes i can't even stand up completely because it hurts so much. it eventually goes away, but boy, does it ever hurt sometimes!

i've been able to control this for a long time, and i'm usually able to eat some of the bad foods (tomato if it's cooked, soda if i add a bit of salt, etc). but the past couple of days, i've felt like someone's inside my bladder with a needle just poking me.

i'm also battling a cold (first time i've been sick in almost 2 years) and am taking sudafed and cough drops. could that be triggering this?

To me that sounds like a pevlic floor spasm....sounds like isn't making the nerves too happy.

Does heat, cold, or moisture help at all?? Have you ever tried an antisapsmodic?
If this is a new symptoms you should definatly tell your doctor...Make sure you don't have an infection (bacterial or yeast). Sometimes we may only have spasms when there is an extra irritant.

thanks, katrina. i do have urelle, but i hate using it since it discolors the toilet bowl (it's really hard to get that color out too). i am calling my family dr tomorrow about the cold, so i might ask him to check for a uti as well. i hadn't thought about having an infection. i rarely get those (uti's or yeast), so i really don't know what they feel like. i keep coughing so much right now from the cold that i'm having lots of pulling pains down there, and i'm leaking too. :dizzy: it's driving me bonkers!

The cold medicine like decongestants do aggravate IC. Every time I take them it flares me up. I try and use nasal spray as it does not have to go into your system the same way and I have never had a flare up with nasal spray. I do know that if I have to cough alot it can cause a flare up due to the muscles that it takes to cough. You can also pull muscle when you have a bad cough. I hope this helps. I would talk with my urologist about this to make sure nothing is going on. :flower: :grouphug:

saw my family dr yesterday about the cough and sniffles and stuff, and he gave me a shot and some meds. he checked my urine, and it was weird-looking. i was really surprise by the color. the nurse even asked i was on pyridium (which i'm not). there was blood in it, so he's going to culture it in case it is an infection. if it's not an infection, then i'm probably having a flare from all the meds i've tried to treat this sinus stuff. but it will be good to know. if it's an infection, well, now i'll know what they feel like.

:grouphug: Holly, I hope you start feeling better soon. It really sucks to be sick on the weekend;doesn't it. I have a cold also and my period has just begun and those two things are causing me to flare again.
