Hi all,
Well my appt. went so well on Friday! I LOVE my pain doc. He is SUCH a nice man. He seems like he truly cares about me and about how the pain affects me and my life.
I was so nervous when I got there, my heart rate was 150/101! That is so hight for me. So anyway when he came in he asked how I was and if I was feeling better after my period. now there is something I have to say about him. He is hot!! Seriously though, he is nice looking and someone I would think is very cute in the real world. So it was quite embarrasing to talk to him about my periods and how heavy they are, etc.
Then I said I think I made a mistake trying to go down on the meds already. He was so nice and just said, yeah I think so too. He told me that he is just SO happy that the medication he put me on and the combo we found, is actually helping so much. He said that is the best news a doc can get!
SO I was very nervous b/c he had already given me some 10 mg pills to take to taper down but those ones just dont work as well. So I wanted the 40 mg pills instead because they work so much better. He said that was no problem and just wrote the script out right there. He also asked me if I wanted 3 months at a time! I told him no though. That makes me nervous, thinking about having 3 months worth at a time. Like all my eggs in one basket.
When I was leaving, he told me it is a pleasure working with me and that I truly am one of his favorite patients. He said he wished all his patients were more like me! What a compliment.
So it all went well. Also, I am STILL having WAY less pain! IT is great. I wake up with my pain around a 3 and after my meds, it is 0-1! WoW.
Love ya all

See? It worked out after all ;)
I'm glad your pain appt went well, and it's always nice to have a hottie for a doctor. My previous PCP was totally hot, but I discovered he was dumb as a post (like, I had to push him out of the way, Google things, and show him medical sites with the proper differential diagnosis for the symptoms I was having). That did not make me comfy, so I left... my new PCP is kind of a dumpy older woman, but at least SHE knows what she's doing.
ANYWAY, that's great you got your old pain regimen back :) It's also amazing he offered it for 3 months at a time. Here in North Carolina, the DEA will not let pain clinics hand out 3 months supplies, so everyone has to go back monthly for their prescriptions. It's a hassle, but at least my pain is treated, so I'm not complainin' :)

Thanks Jen! I guess it is legal to prescribe more than one month in CA because he offered to! Plus, I have had one other doctor give me 2 months worth one time. I would rather go in and see him more often though. Plus, we are selling our house right now and have people in and out of it when we aren't there, so I am nervous to leave my pills at home and nervous to take them with me!
The one thing I REALLY love about my doctor is that he is SO there for me. He emails me right back, he answers my calls right away, and he takes a long time with you when you are there. Plus, I can see him as often as I want! I have never heard of a doctor like that. I can just call every single week if I want to and he will see me. I think that is one thing that truly makes a good doctor.
It was kinda touching yesterday because I was talking about how I have always been an over achiever and before this, I was always so healthy. I said how it is SO hard for me to ask for, and accept, help from other people. And how I feel so different now that I have this serious health problem. He said that he cant believe how much I do at only 24 and how poised I am. He also said that the blows I have been dealt with would have felled a much older person and would have affected them in some of the same ways.
Anyway, I felt better after I saw him. He said I can call him every single day if I want, to let him know how I feel.
Thanks for caring!
Sarah

Sarah, This is terrific! I am so happy you have found a great pain dr! I think we all know what an achievment this is! I am thrilled that he seems so caring and easy for you to work with. I just wish we could clone him and place one of him within 5 miles of every ICer! Thanks for giving us the update. I am always happy to know that I can relax and quit worrying about one of my IC sisters. Please keep us updated. Hugs, Amy

That is just awesome, Sarah!
It is so nice to hear about caring doctors that REALLY do take the time to help people out!
I have to say, I have a doc alot like yours! He will not rush me out the door, spends alot of time going over and the good and the bad w/ the medicines, etc. Tell jokes and put me at ease, etc.
Honestly, I'd be a little nervous too about having a 3 month supply around my house! I'd be afraid that I would HIDE it from myself! LOL
I'm glad you are feeling so much better!

Is it me or do you find that Male Drs. are actually more comassionate when it comes to I.C. than Women are??
I have (over the 6 yrs. I've had it) had both & as for me the men have been there for me. The Female Drs. really seem "*****y"!!!
Honestly!

I dont know, I have actually had better luck with female doctors and IC. This is the first male doctor I have had that is good. I think it all depends on the person!!

:woohoo: I am so happy you have a wonderful pain Dr. and the fact he is fine makes it all the more better. R U falling for the man who makes you feel better? I know I would. I used to have the cutest allergy Dr. He was fine and so nice but he moved out of state :( . I see my pain clinic today for refills on my patch but I think I see the nurse. In my state we can only have 1 month at a time. My only problem is I am on the 25 mic fentynl and it was helping really really well the 1st couple of weeks and now seems not to help at all. I don't know if I have gotten used to it or if I am in the middle of a horrible flare and I am scared to say anything either. I do not want them to think I am drug seeking. I would rather have what I do have then nothing at all

Kimchi,
You need to tell them how you are feeling. I am scared of that too, but if they dont know then they cant fix it. I try to be as open and frank about my symptoms and how it affects my life. I think that negates the drug seeker thing. Tell them what is going on!

well. I had the appt. Saw the nurse and I told her the meds were not helping as well as they did the 1st few weeks I was on them and she gave me a dirty look. The rx was already written out and I took it and left. This time I filled it brand name and I will see if this helps any better. I am also going to wait until I see Dr. Evans 6/21. I think he will have some more suggestions for pain mgt. Will see. Meantime, I am going to be very careful not to cause any flares. I am in one right now and it is really bad and I have no idea what caused it this time. Man, even if I sneeze, it explodes down there. What scares me is if I have this pain, even on all the narcotics I am on, what would I feel like w/o them?

Judy, I am in the GA area. Don't really know anyone in your area. You may want to start a thread on this subject alone. I think you would get more responses. Check this out though. Might give you some ideas. http://www.ampainsoc.org/

Kimchi, thanks for your help, somehow the thread got messed up but then later that day it was started as a new one, however if you know of a good doctor in your area it would be well worth my time and money as I have gone as far as Houston,Tx. looking for a decent, understanding doctor, plus I do have relatives in Alpharettta, thanks dear and hope to hear from you again.
