I started to get UTIs after sex a few years ago. Before that I dind't have ANY IC symptoms. I get about about 2 UTIs a year and it is always worse than the previous as far as pain and bleeding. Then I have to deal with yeast because of the antibiotics.
I'm doing everything I can to prevent UTI and yeast but I still get them.
It is so sad because everytime I have sex, the fear of UTI is in my head.
Now I'm afraid to have sex because all that I have to deal with afterwards if I get an UTI, the flare, the medications, the doctors, the expenses, calling in sick at work. Gee...
My urologist told me to take 1 macrodantin each time I have sex (but what about yeast???)
Peeing before and after sex is what I was doing but I guess is not enough.
Anyone in a similar situation? Any advice?

I sooooooooooooo hear you! Before IC I got some UTIs, but not like I did after IC. I was getting 4-5 a year ---- that I caught, I think I had them more often and thought they were just flares.

I finally asked my doctor to let me take one antibiotic pill after sex to prevent the UTIs. I had been getting 4-5 a year and I think I just passed the 2 year mark of NOOOOO UtIs. The antibiotic after sex has been a lifesaver for me. I was very prone to yeast, but haven't had a yeast infection in a long time.

It's nice to not get the UTIs, but it's also nice not to be consumed with worry about getting one every time we have sex! It was awful. That was always on my mind and affected whether I wanted to have sex and how I felt during.

I'd give it a shot. It has been SO worth it to me. :)

Its great to hear that!
I'll try it and cross my fingers that it'll work.
What antibiotics do you take?
My urologist prescribed me Macrodantin b/c it stays only 6hrs in the system in that way I won't get yeast.(or at least it won't be a massive yeast infection , the kind I get when I do a full course of antibiotics).
This gives me hope.

My GP prescribed it for me. He just asked me what antibiotic usually takes care of my infections and my uro has always given me Levaquin so that's what my GP prescribed.

Good luck - I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me! :)
