Hi everyone,
I'm just wondering whether any of us Aussies are on Elmiron. I'm asking because I have a script for it and am considering going on it. If any of you are taking it could you let me know how much you are paying for it. I asked at my local pharmacy and it costs a fortune.
Thanks very much
George

Hi George how are things with you? I haven't been on the boards a whole lot latley & just seen this. I have been on Elmiron for about 3 yrs now & have found that it has helped me. A couple of times I was unsure it was helping because my IC was still so bad so I stoped taking it for awhile but soon realised that it was defentitly helping, although I still am in huge pain & live on the loo.
Yes, it is expensive & the price can vary alot but lucky enough I managed to get a good deal with my chemist & get it for $125.00. I have been quoted anything up to $180.00 so that is a good price. Although it hard to find when you a single Mum on a disabilty:headbang:
I really think it would be worth giving it a go, we know it does not help everyone but you may be one of us lucky ones.
Let us know what you decide & good luck
Andrea:)

Hi Andrea,
Thanks for replying. The price really does vary doesn't it? I've now found an online pharmacy in Australia and their price is around $125. It seems much cheaper to go through a mail order pharmacy than go to the local chemist who was quoting about $160.
I'm still haven't quite made up my mind yet because things are really chaotic with me at the moment. But I think I will have a good look through the Elmiron posts here and get some ideas of the pros and cons.
Okay, thanks for getting back to me. Hope you are alright.
Sincerely,
George
Hi George & Andrea,
I'm not on Elmiron but made inquiries a couple of years ago and was quoted around $125. If you find it cheaper at another chemist ask your local chemist to match the price, most chemists do.
Also if your in a health fund you should be able to claim $50 back, I know with our one (HCF) they do.
I purchased it a couple of years ago, tried it and it did nothing for me. Then I couldn't afford it.
Good luck
George

Thanks Nadia for your reply. How are you by the way? Elmiron is definitely expensive plus the cost of other medications. I'm just still deciding whether to go on it or to try the natural route of Cystoprotek first.

I have a tub of Elmiron sitting in the bathroom closet. I was only able to take 3 pills and then I reacted badly to it so had to stop. What a waste! Does anyone know what I can now do with this unused but new medication? Would the chemist take it back?

The chemist will take it back for disposal for you, but won't refund if it's been opened.
