Can anyone tell me if they experience discomfort shortly after a rescue instillation? I just had one at my doctor's office and now I am having spasms and pelvic pain. Of, course, they are not in the office any more today so there is no one there to call and ask.
Thanks

Hi Jody!
I just started getting rescue instills. Yesterday I had my 4th rescue instill (Heparin; Lidocaine and sodium bicarbonate).
Everyone seems to be different in how they react to the instill. My experience has been that I feel pretty uncomfortable for about 24 hours after my instill. My bladder will feel achey and I will have a crampy, sore irritated feeling. My frequency and urgency also seem to increase as well. 24 hours after the instill I will feel pretty good for a day or so. Sometimes I do not start feeling better until 2 days after the instill.
I have noticed that my bladder must be getting more use to the instill and that I do not feel as uncomfortable afterwards as I did on my first couple of instills.
I hope you will find some relief with the instills!

I had my first rescue instill (lidocaine, marcaine, and heparin) yesterday and got immediate relief. I've had no adverse side effects at all.
take care

The "rescue instillations" (notice the quotes) caused bad pain in my urethra that lasted at least 12 hours and didn't do any good. Needless to say, I'm looking for something else.

I had my first instill yesterday, and last night and today, so crampy and in pain, like a major flare up, have an instill scheduled for tomorrow and the next day, do not look forward to this added pain, the IC is enough!!! Does it get better? I even called and left a message for the nurse, should I have another instill tomorrow? Then I read some of the other messages, maybe it just takes time. How many of you had pain in the beginning but they help now?
Thanks from high hopes,

I had pain with each rescue. I am now done with my series. I do not have to get them again until I am in a flare. Sorry, that's probably not what you wanted to hear. Maybe other people have had better luck than I.

 Thanks Jody for your response,
How long and often did your series last?
the nurse called me back yesterday evening and said for me to still come today, so I did for my second instill, still hurting when I went, took a AZO last night and one this morning before the instill, still crampy crampy crampy!
The nurse today stated my pain was probably from the cath and me having spasms, but I don't think so, I have had enough flare ups and bladder infections over the years to know uretha spasms, my stomach is blown up and I cramp, have horrible back and bottom pain, more intense than a IC flare up!! I know its only 2 but if you hurt worse than you did before you had them, you deal with enough pain with IC and fibromyalgia and migraines to invite more into your life............. I am so confused....

Kathy:
I had a series of 6 (every other day) for 2 weeks. My bladder started having spasms and I also had a flare going on at the same time. My doctor gave me tramadol for the pain and Urised for the spasms and also increased my Elavil to 50 mg. I had just started the Elavil and she said they normally do not increase it that fast but they did in my case. You might want to ask your doctor for something to helps spasms.
I am really worried because I am leaving early in the morning to go away for 10 days and will be driving in a care for 12 hours and I am afraid I will flare while I am away and be in pain.
I sure hope that you feel better soon.

I agree, what are we being rescued from? So far it is torture! I have a great husband too, I just get so tired of whining to him!!!
Jody that is the same series they have me scheduled for :( and what real bad the doctor is out of town this week and most of next, so they can give me nothing for pain, all I have to rely on is the ole faithful AZO!!!!!
I sure hope you trip goes well! Its horrible that we have to be afraid to plan to go anywhere for worrying about flareups and pain!!!!!
Thanks you guys
Hugs and Prayers!!!

I was diagnosed 10 years ago with IC. I was in terrible pain and back then they used the metal rod for the cystoscopy. I was told I had a mild case. Somehow I went into remission for about 9 years and only had a flare every few months. I have questioned whethor or not I have IC but my new Dr says it is likely. Anyways after going through the stress of infertility and my crazy job (teaching) I am in a horrible flare that has been going on for about 2 months. I have started the insyills of elmiron. The first one was horrible. I was fine until I peed then the burning and cramping were unbelievable. Pyridium really helped. My doctor wanted me to give it anither try. The next time I took the pyridium a half hour before my appointment and it really helped. I had one two days ago and I was fine But I had one today and here I am lying in bed with horrible cramps and a heating pad! I have just started elavil and atarax also. My doctor says that there is a holistic doctor in the area who has done wonderful things with patients with IC. He charges 125 dollors for the first visit not including supplements. Has a:dizzy: ny tried a holistic dr? Any thoughts at all will be appreciated greatly. I am not sure as to whethor to trust this doctor since she told me that I would fell WONDERFUL with the instills and was suprised that I didnt
