hi Wow you're close by! I see Dr. Susan Pursell at Beverly hospital(and Danvers Hunt Centre).

There's Dr. Paul Church who is in Boston. Hmmm I was supposed to call my Urology office in Boston at BIDMC wh handled my InterStim....they've got someone one new who's supposed to be really knowledgable. I've procrastinated.

I was seeing Dr. Staskin & Dr. Bellin from that office, but both doctors have moved away from Boston and practice elsewhere (I bleive Staskin is in NY and Bellin is in the Worcester area).

Hope that helps some,
y. :)

Bestie, Dr. Friedman in Natick is very wonderful and compassionate. He is a urologist and knoweldagbe about ic and has loads of ic patients. He tells me to call him anytime I have a question or need to talk and they will get back to me. His office staff is very caring and supportive as well. His Pa Jen is also very good too. If you want his number, please let me know and I will give it to you.

Thank you all for your quick replies.
I have been a patient of Dr. Sant's for years, so need to find someone knowledgable about IC. Somtimes I really wonder if this even matters because nothing really has helped my frequency!!!

Whoa, this is news to me and I have been Dr. Sant's patient for 5 years! I pretty much only see him once a year, though. Maybe this is the universe's way of telling me it is time for a change, anyway? As usual, with IC this site is the only place I have ever gotten useful information.

Boy, I sound crabby. This perimenopause stuff is really no fun!

Thanks again. Did someone recommend Paul Church?
I have a wonderful nurse practioner. Maybe I will just stick with her awhile.

Crabbily yours,
Hope

lmao Geeez Hope! I didn't think you sounded crabby at all -- a little hard on ourselves aren't we?

Yes I have a friend who sees Paul Church & thinks he's great, and honestly this same friend saw Sant for one visit afterwards. He told her frankly, that she & Church were doing nothing different than he would do. To me that sounded pretty encouraging.

What me hard on myself??
Thanks Yvette and Betsie for the reassurance. Well, I am in complete denial about the uro thing. Frankly, I haven't gotten much from the urologist for awhile. I don't think that reflects on the doc, as much as that I have this mild to moderate ic thing going. That means okay some of the time, crummy sometimes but as long as I don't stray from the diet I am not in enough pain to necessitate pain medication. But still can't eat anything I really like and eat too much white and refined stuff. What I really should do is get the nerve to do is pfd therapy....

Jeez, I am blithering on tonight. Tired.

I have a nice acupuncturist to recommend, if anyone is interested, though.

Night night

Hope-
I feel the same way about my IC. Sometimes mild, sometimes moderate, but as long as I stay on my strict diet I can handle it. HOWEVER- I'm forced to eat too much white rice and white flour! I live north of Boston- who is the acupuncturist you recommend?
Hugs,
Jeanne

Betsie Wetsie,

I wouldn't see Dr. Doyle - he isn't that receptive to IC. I think he is more prostate-centric. Again, just my opinion but I came aware unimpressed with him.

best of luck

I will put in another plug for Dr. Friedman of Natick, MA. He is one of the best uros I have seen that knows ic and willing to try different treatments and options with you and he is very caring and understanding. His office staff is very nice and compassionate and knows about ic. His pa Jen is new and is learning about ic from DR. Freidman. He is at Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick, MA. I see him on Dec17. He is willing take phone calls and call you back with any questions or problems that you are having. If you need to see right away, the office staff will fit you in. Just my plug. He has alot of ic patients and is very understanding. He knows ic patients have pain and belives that we have pain.

I see Dr. Zinman at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. I have been his patient since 1978. He was diagnosing IC back then before other uros even recognized it. Judith

Hi Judith-
What kinds of IC treatments/meds does Dr. Zinman have you on? I live close to Lahey and was curious if your uro would be good for me.
Best,
Jeanne

Jeanne, I am one of the few people who needed to have thier bladder out due to IC- it happened 18 years ago, long before they had all the treatment options that are now available. Back then I tried all the meds they had and also would get hydrodistensions. I moved and had by bladder out down in NYC. They screwed things up and Dr. Zinman got me squared away- Thank God for him. I know that some people also see Dr. Smith at Lahey for IC- I met him once and liked him. In fact when Dr. Zinman retires that is who I will switch to.

Sylvia,
I also see Dr. Emanuel Friedman in Natick, and can affirm auntiedebbie's comments that he is very knowledgable in IC. She's also correct that his PA, Jen, is wonderful - very compassionate and informed. The office staff there is very helpful in getting a message to Dr. Friedman, and a call-back is always forthcoming.

Good luck in your search.

Vanessa, where are you in CT? Maybe if you are close enough to the MA, or NY borders there is a dr. that you can travel to. Let us know where abouts you are and see if we can come up with some names for you.

Have you considered seeing Dr. Moldwin in Long Island ~ as the author of the Inerstitial Survival guide and a very well known IC specialist, I personally would consider him within a decent distance. One other reson aside from his expertise is I would imagine those in his clicic/practice are also well versed in IC...not sure of the trip length for you, but worth a shot. There are some here that do see him and a few that traveled from CN to see him. BTW-if you haven't read his book, do so! It's the best.

There are a few good Drs in NYC....check out Central Park Urology. I almost did when first dxd and things were just horrid, but my treatment plan has turned out to be quite simple. BTW - Dr Sant left private practice to go into research, presumably for IC and he is in NYC now. I saw him for a second opinion right before he left and my desire to switch over sort of backed him into a corner to tel me of his plans....but, his changes in my treatment protocol changed my life and has life has been much better since 10/03. Good luck, you will find a great Dr.

I had seen Dr. Sant in the past. I'd highly, highly, highly recomend Dr. Robert Blute Jr. He is the top Urologist in the U.S. and he's located right in Worcester, MA. This doctor knows more about I.C. than any other urologist I've been to (too many to count), not to mention he is very sympathetic, caring, patient, and informative. Let me know if you'd like his contact information. I know Worcester might be a bit far to travel, but its worth it. I live in Western MA, and it takes me close to 2 hours to get there, but again, I'd travel across the country to see this guy. Best of luck to you.

Hello, I am from Pennsylvania, this lady from Boston Called me today, she seen my name on a web site. Like I said she is 70 years old and lives alone and has had IC since 1991, she has no computer at home. Her doctor left the area recently,(I have been reading other posts from your area and it seems like you all went to this one doctor that you all loved.) Please someone call her. This is the first time I ever talked to her, her name is Elanore, her voice is cracky, and hard to understand sometimes. She is scared and having problems with her legs going numb from her knees down. I never had this problem with my IC so I did not know what to tell her, but the doctor she has now reassures her it is from the IC. I would appreciate if someone could send me a email and let me know how she is. Perhaps you are all knowing the same doctor you all liked so well.
Thank you so much for helping her out.

Sue: I know who you are talking about....she's real nice. :)

Poor lamb....I took her and another gal to the Natick meeting a few years back....how is she holding up....I lost all her contact info when I moved. :(
