I would love to hear from people that have had a surgery before the bladder symptoms began...both those actually diagnosed with IC and those with the bladder pain. When did the bladder symptoms start following surgery?

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

Mine started within six months of an abdominal hysterectomy.

when iwas 6 i had a tonsilectomy and started having symptoms but they couldnt figure out what it was. as the years passed i got used to it and quit saying anything about it cause i had heard "its all in your head" too many times. i went on with it had a few accidents every once in a while (worst was in PE when i was in Jr High cause the gym teacher wouldnt let me go) then i had a csection when i was 16 (yeah yeah i know) and it got a little worse. but it wasnt until i had my second c section when i was 20 and then was in a car accident less then two weeks later. within 2 weeks i started hurting and having urgency/frequency and it got just got worse and worse with the drs telling me that i just needed to drink cranberry juice (i took pills instead cause i couldnt stand the taste of it though) because "you always have infections. if you would just eat/drink/take cranberry food/drinks/meds it will keep them from getting worse" well when i went to the gyno in oct of 04 (about a year since symptoms went wild) he did a pelvic exam and about the time i was trying to tell him that it hurt to have intercourse he stuck the specula inside me and i just about jumped off the bed and screamed really loud. that was when i was diagnosed....hope this helps. not sure if the csection or the car accident (wasnt wearing seat belt cause of csection and was in back seat, so i was tossed around between the door and my kiddos carseat) was what kicked it into high gear but i think it might have been because of both and the abdominal trama it caused...

My IC symptoms started one month after my second c-section.

I've had IC symptoms my whole life, I always peed more than anyone else, but never thought anything about it. I would have blood in my urine periodically and twice I suffered such severe retention that I had to go to the ER to get cathed. No one ever questioned these things. I had worsening pain over about 3 months when I first starting seeking a diagnosis and treatment (in October 05). I went to a GYN. After a procedure I had with her, my pain was set off to a tremendous level that still is not controlled (that was almost 6 months ago now). It was a few weeks after I had the endometrial biopsy that I was diagnosed with IC. I KNOW that that procedure set it off....absolutely no doubt in my mind....my pain became unbearable at the very moment she "snipped" a uterine biopsy.

I'm curious to hear others' responses as well. Like I said, my symptoms were so minor in the beginning I overlooked all of it. It was the PAIN that led me to try to get some answers. I'm still workin on finding those answers..

My symptoms began just a week or two after a D&C for blighted ovum. I'm scared to have a laproscope or anything that might exacerbate it.

Mine started 6 wks after my son's c-section birth. Up until that time I never had bladder problems or anything. That is when my IC started, migraines etc..:(
