I just had my first rescue instillation on Wed. and I have been in horrible pain since then. Is that normal? does it take some time for those to start working?

Yes, many have some pain for the first few instills. Ask for a pain pill for after & I always found an ice pack to be helpful too. Kathi

I had pain all day for my first half dozen or so instillations. Now I don't. I think the trick is to take some AZO Standard, pyridiem or something beginning the morning your are having the instillation and for the next 24 hrs following. It really does help my urethral and bladder pain.
Hope this helps!

What meds were in your instillation?
Could you have an infection?
Could you be allergic to latex?
Rescue installtions are usually soothing....but DMSO causes major flares. It can depend a lot on what meds are in you instillation.
how long did you hold the instillation?
:grouphug: Hope you feel better soon.

I know that it wasn't DSMO just a rescue solution with Heparin and an antibiotic I believe.
The morning after I took a fiber suplement, benefiber, could that have caused all the pain?

it really depends on what type of rescue treatment or dmso your Dr. is using. My mixer is just simple it has heparin, marcaine, water.
other icers has diff. things mix in with there treatments.
Yes at first i thought it wasn't working it hurt like heck. I want lie about it, but one thing you must remember there are no quick fixes to IC all treatments will take time to work. It took me using them three times a day for a few mths until i found relief. after that i had a remission peroid of eighteen mths.
You could had gained an infection from the installment too so that is something to keep in mind. Its best for your uro to give you an low dose anti. after each installment to ward off any infections that could happen.
I would use either heat or ice at the bladder area. which ever feels best for you. If you have any pain medicine i would use that too. drink lots of water and try to get you some rest. this may help ease the pain off some.
don't let this one installment scare you off. Please give it a far shot. It will not work for everyone, but has helped many. Please keep that in mind. Your uro may need to adjust the meds he is using in the installment too.
hope you find some relief soon. I also think you should look at the patinet handbook if you have't already you can find this at www.ic-network.com/handbook yes its a lot to read but so worth the time. You will also find the IC diet their which has been a God sent to many of us ICERs
sending you hugs and prayers and please keep us updated on how you are remember we are here for you and we do care. most importantly we do understand.
