Wish me luck everyone! :D After re-reading some of the posts I almost decided not to try botox for my urg/freq problem. However, since oral meds have not worked i decided to try. I've read both positive and negative results and I'm hoping to be on the positive side! :D
Will post results asap

Hey, good luck, Mimi!
Keep us posted on what happens. I think Botox is one of the more interesting possible treatments out there. At least it doesn't involve getting electronics implanted inside you! Ugh!
I hope it goes well and does some good!

Thanks ladies!
I appreciate your kind thoughts for me.
I made it through the procedure with no problems! It was much easier then anticipated. Slight discomfort a couple of times but otherwise pain free :D
Now let's hope it does some good for my freq/ urg problems as I don'y know what else we could try try. No implants for me as I need MRI's yearly..plus I don't like the idea of the device implanted. yuckO LOL
I will let y'all know how it goes. My next concern is retention but hopefully it won't happen or at at minimum be short lived.
I love my Uro he is so patient with me.

I am so happy for you Mimi.
Don't be suprised if you don't start having some retention on day 3 or 4. That is due from swelling from the injections sites.
Keep me posted.

Glad to hear that it went well. It took about 2 weeks to a month for me to see the full effect so hang in there and be patient in case the results are a little slow. I hope this is the answer for you!! Keep us updated!

Mimi, I hope you are recovering quickly from your surgery. I'd like to hear more about it since I'm scheduled for June 26th. Please let me know how many units of Botox your Uro used and any other info that you might think helpful.
Thank you and God Bless.

I have heard from Mimi again and she is having some urgency and frequency. That is usually common for me. It is from inflammation from the injection sites. I usually take a medrol z-pack and it clears it right up. I am sure she will be a great deal better once the swelling goes down.

Mimi I hope you are doing well.
Can you give us an update on your progress?
I will be nterested in finding out the outcome of botox. It is not a treatment readily available in the UK, and you have to be an extreme case to be considered. I am due to have this in a couple of months time, so would be keen to see how you have got on and what I need to be aware of.
Hope things are ok

Some uros are even doing botox before elmiron so it seems that maybe in a few years it may be a standard of treatment. If you have retention ask for Flomax ,Cardura or any other alpha blocker. It helps to void. The retention is temporary if any occurs. Good luck to you.

tHings to be aware of: Rest and take time for a few days to heal from the porcedure. The first day will be ok but the next fews days can be uncomfortable so don't do your daily routine. Drink alot of water, rent some movies and curl up in bed for a few days. You can do light activity but if you do too much you'll be hurting and it will take longer to heal. I had mine under a general but some do a local anes. I recommend the general because some feel it worse after to procedure. I slept the first day because of the stuff they gave me to knock me out which really helped me sleep and heal. Get a body pillow and hug it.Put it in between your legs and it take pressure of the bladder. I use the body pillows everynight. A heating pad is a good thing to have after botox. A warm or hot bath relaxes and warms your muscles. Just baby yourself like you ould after any surgery. Some think because there not cutting you that it isn't surgery but it is. Your bladder is being poked at and is already diseased. Like when you work out after not doing so in a long time and those mucles hurt and everything you touch or bump them makes it worse. Avoid being in a car as much as possible the first week or so. So those are my tips for everyone thinking about botox. I had it done twice. It helped with urg/frq but not the pain. I'm considered an extreme case and I've been to all the top IC drs. Dr. Parsons(elmiron developer), Mayo Clinic and Dr. Brubaker(top in chicago). So try the botox is isn't scary or really painful at all. I feels like you're in a flare or had a cysto. It does take a bit of time to fully work. Mine was 17-18 days before I really saw results. The first sign was I was able to sleep thru the night. Maybe one trip early in the morning. If you're really suffering you'll want to tell yourself that you did everything you could to make your bladder better. That what makes me feel better when I get down. I'm going to be trying Cyclosporine A next. Very experiemental and only for extreme ICers. So I hope this helps and feel free to PM me if you have other questions. There are no long term side effects or nerve damage. The only side effect is that after the first few days you might have bladder retention but it doesn't last long and can be taken care of most times with Flomax, Cardura or another alpha blocker.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR ADVICE. SOUNDS AS IF YOU'RE PRETTY MUCH AN AUTHORITY ON THE BOTOX THING.

Can the botox also be done for men w/ic?
My poor husband wakes on the floor sleeping, the constant voiding makes it impossible for him to get a good nights sleep. We sleep in different rooms, poor thing he doesn't want me losing sleep because I have to get up in the morning for work.
Does it have to be a uro or can family practice dr give the injections?;)

I would think it has to be an uro and preferable someone that has done it in the past. I haven't done it myself but I'm considering it. Get as much information as possible on teh process before making a desicion.
