I have done about 10 of the compound instills and I think they maybe making a difference. I have had coke and pizza and no ill effects other than the urthera pain from self cath. I have a low grade fever so my doctor put me on an antibiotic to take everyday for a while.

Is there anybody else out there on this compound self instill????? I would love to hear from you. Maybe there is hope. I hate to think what it will cost me and if I will have to do this everyday for the rest of my life, but if I can eat and have a normal life it will be worth it. After this week, I will only have to do it once a day. Let me hear from someone....... :)

Wow, I'm so glad you are doing this well! I hope you get better and better! I'm wondering, are you instilling the cytotec too, or taking it orally? It stopped working for me for some reason... :(

Blessings,
Lori

Lori, in her other thread, it sounds like the cytotec is getting instilled too. Note, in my bumped thread, where Baba Yaga states that she does not envision this happening for years yet. LOL

Wow, so maybe Cytotec does have some usefulness...hmmm...will have to talk to my doc again about instillations (I have been begging him to prescribe me the ingredients so I can do at-home rescue instills) and see what he thinks about Cytotec as an ingredient...maybe it would help me more that way, than orally...?

Blessings,
Lori

How are you Lori? Are you really back to square one? Do you think it stopped working because the pain found another path? I am still taking cytotec but I don't know if its doing anything. I'm also trying vesicare. I feel so so. PV.

The Cytotec is in the instill. My doctor went to a conference several weeks ago in Cleveland and this was all the talk. Thinking that if it went directly in the bladder along with the Elimorn it would have a more of effect plus it wouldn't enter your blood stream and not cause all the side effects. Mine was made by a compound pharmist and was very expensive and I am doing them at home. I hope my insurance will reimburse me for some of the cost.

Hi, PV, I've stopped taking the Cytotec - I don't think it's helping me anymore - I have no idea why not. :(

Blessings,
Lori

You guys, remember that if you can tolerate the cytotec orally, it can help you tolerate anti-inflammatories that might otherwise be upsetting to your stomach, intestinal, or possibly even bladder linings (and there are many to choose from, of differing strengths). So its usefulness may still reside in the original purpose it was created for.

I used this angle yesterday with my pain management doc, because I told her I really wanted to go the anti-inflammatory route -- less sedating than other routes, and I wasn't sure if the ultram/tramadol was helping, and why take opioids of any kind if you have other ways to go? I showed her the abstract of the Belfast study, too. So she agreed to start me out on just 100 mcg for us to see how I tolerate it, and titrate me upward. YAY!!!

She had already prescribed Celebrex, saying it shouldn't bother my digestive system too much, but then when I mentioned the cytotec she agreed to that anyway.

If the pharmacy gets in in today, I will try my first 100 mcg tonight. This is why I posted that question about starting on even less, like maybe if the pills are splittable. We'll just see now how I tolerate it orally...

Lori, I owe this to you. If the topic had not been alive when I came onto the boards, I would not a) have known about this drug which helps people tolerate anti-inflammatory medications, and b) would also not have had the abstract that possibly tipped the scales for my pain doc. I hope your pain ends soon somehow.

(btw I think Lyrica and myacalcin may be helping me, if you have not tried them. I am trying Vesicare as well -- I think it's worth it for people to try every available OAB med -- Detrol and Oxytrol helped me, but I couldn't take the side effects of Detrol. i may revisit the Oxytrol if Vesicare and Enablex don't help me.)

Wow, that's great, Wendy, I hope that it works well for you, or at least helps you tolerate other medicines better!

Blessings,
Lori

By the way, while doing these instills I have a big warning on my prescrip. NO ANTI-INFLAMMATORIES , MEANING ADVIL, MODRIN, OR ASPRIN. Just a thought.

littlemyrn, if you get the reason for that warning explained, please let us know.

I once added diflucan to my instills. I just disolved the pill in the instill. It is one of the only things that elps orally. However, it was not of much use in the instill. -V

OK, so it might mean "do not add to the solution" rather than "do not take orally at the same time"?
